  1. Issue with USB 3 & Win RE

I recently attempted to restore my W10 system image to a new SSD via a Macrium-created Win RE USB recovery medium. The image was created, verified and saved to an external HDD in a USB 3 compatible drive dock (both HDD & USB stick connected via USB 3 ports).

Several attempts to verify the image in the recovery environment resulted in the following error message:
Verify: Verification failure. Read error - no such file or directory.

I shut down, detached the new SSD, reattached the original SSD (OS disk), restarted and successfully verified the image in the W10/Reflect environment.

Again shut down, recreated the 'recovery' scenario, and again failed to verify. I also attempted to restore the image without first verifying, and failed with the following error:
Error 105. The system cannot find the file specified.

Eventually, I succeeded in verifying & restoring the image by performing the operation with the external HDD/dock connected via a USB 2 port (c. 20 minutes for c. 50GB data).

The usual explanation offered for this issue relates to 'flaky' USB 3 ports/controllers/drivers etc. However, all my images are created and verified using the above external USB 3/HDD setup, and I recently successfully verified and restored a data disk image to a new internal HDD via the Macrium/Win RE boot menu option.

I also successfully used the viboot feature to test a system recovery image stored on the external HDD via a USB 3 port.

Is it possible that read/write speeds are the issue in that particular recovery environment?
Or USB 3 'flakiness' when both RE & external disk are simultaneously connected to USB 3 ports?
Maybe something obvious, like a Brexit-related issue?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 USB 3 issues

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

As per the issue description flash drive (USB 3 device) is not working on your computer after upgrading to Windows 10.

I understand that the USB device is not getting detected by your computer. The issue may arise if the currently loaded USB driver has become unstable or corrupt or if your PC requires an update for issues that may conflict
with a USB device and Windows. This may also occur if your USB controllers may have become unstable or corrupt. So, I would suggest you to try the following steps and check if the issue persists.

    Method 1:

Remove and reinstall all USB controllers.

    • Open Device Manager by pressing Windows key + X and select
device manager from the list. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    • In the list of hardware categories, find and expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    • Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click
Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
    • Restart the computer, and let the USB controllers get reinstalled.
    • Plug in the removable USB device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.

    Method 2

The issue could be if the drivers are not updated or get corrupted. So, try to install all of the Windows updates available and if issue persists, try to update the Display drivers by following the steps provided in the article mentioned below.

How to: Install and Update drivers in Windows
    10

If issue still persists, then install the drivers for Windows 8/8.1 from the manufacturer's website in compatibility mode and check if that works.

Make older programs compatible with this version of Windows

    Reference:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/...5&v2h=win7tab1&v3h=winvistatab1&v4h=winxptab1

    Method 3

If issue persists try the steps provided to uninstall the USB device from Device Manager, uninstall the device drivers from program list and then download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.

    Step 1:

Uninstall the Device from Device Manager

    • Open Device Manger by clicking on Windows key + X and selecting
      Device manager from the list.
    • Expand the USB section.
    • Find the USB device.
    • Right click USB and select Uninstall.
    • Select the check box delete the driver software for this device.
    • Reboot the computer after uninstall process has finished.

    Step 2:

Uninstall the Device Drivers from Program List in Control Panel

    • Click on start, select Control Panel
    • Now click on Programs and select Programs and Features.
    • Find the USB.
    • Right click USB driver and select Uninstall.
    • Reboot the computer after the uninstall process has finished.

    Step 3:

Download and install the latest drivers for the USB from the manufacturer website

Issue with USB 3 & Win RE

    AMD FX OC'ers Club

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.
