Windows 10: Issue with WSL Installation: "Windows Installer" Popup and Catastrophic Failure

I am trying to install wsl using wsl --installWhile the initial steps seem to proceed smoothly, I encounter a Windows Installer popup with the following message:Windows ® Installer. V 5.0.26100.1150msiexec /Option <Required Parameter> [Optional Parameter]Once I close the popup, the installation halts with a "Catastrophic Failure" error message.Steps I've Tried So Far:Verified that the Windows Installer service is running.Tried running the installation in administrator mode. run netsh winsock reset and reboot Unregistered and re-registered the Windows Installer using

I am facing an issue with installation of Ubuntu 20.04 in my wsl. I have earlier installed WSL without any issues on my PC and was running fine with ROS1 and ROS2. But when i tried to uninstall a python verison, it show how corrupted the ubuntu. so i unregistered the older version. And now trying to install new one. But i doubt that the old files are still in my system as I can see the older version of ubuntu in my program and I am not an admin of the PC. But i have admin rights.

What I did was as follows:

wsl --update --web-download

I used --web-download as without arguments was not working.

Then i tried to run the following command:

wsl.exe --install Ubuntu-20.04

and got the error as : >>

What may be reason and how can I install Ubuntu 20.04 ?

I would like to install WSL because linux distros in Hyper-V are irritatingly slow for my GPU, so I though to get better performance with WSL, with which I have 0 XP. Install fails with: Code:

I have installed\enabled the following optional features: 1. Hyper-V 2. Virtual machine platform 3. Windows Subsystem for Linux There is no network issue, I tried with firewall disabled. Any hints are welcome.

thanks, I've tried all of it including troubleshooting section. The only step I didn't try is installing kernel update package which fails because subsystem is up to date. Anyway I've given up from WSL and using Hyper-V, I don't need linux often maybe once in a month just to test some stuff so it's not a big issue.
