  1. Issues and extremely long loading of Music folder

Having an issue since some Windows 10 update within the last few months (not sure which one) where my music folder takes a very long time to load, and refreshes regularly / randomly while in it, sometimes when just scrolling, or even if I am not performing any actions and just have it open. I don't believe this is a hardware issue as I've encountered it both on a decently spec'd laptop with the files on a SSD, and a much better spec'd desktop on a regular 7200RPM HDD (both with ample storage left on the drive), and any combination of those, and I definitely didn't always have this issue.

For reference, the folder is about 63GB with about 2300 files and mostly M4A/ALAC or MP3/320 files. I don't seem to have this issue on any other folder on my computer, or at least to as noticeable of a degree as with this one. Playing audio files occurs without issue and using search within the folder is quick and doesn't have issues either. Right-clicking / accessing the context menu is quick and without issue as well.

Things I've tried (restarting the computer after every change), which are solutions I've seen all over, all with no real noticeable change, with most still applied:
    - accessing the folder on a fresh Windows 10 install with no other software installed
    - all Windows updates installed, including software / firmware related to motherboard / storage devices / etc
    - putting the files into smaller folders -- it requires numerous small folders for a significant impact
    - optimizing the folder for "music"
    - optimizing the folder for "general items"
    - enabling Indexing specific to the folder
    - disabling Windows Search
    - SFC scan (no errors)
    - netsh winsock reset
    - excluding the folder from Dropbox
    - excluding the folder from Defender
    - disabling Quick Access and clearing cache
    - uninstalling Web Media Extensions
    - booting into Safe Mode (marginally faster but no tag information displayed to actually verify when sorting)
    - disabled Cortana
    - unchecked "Always search file names and contents "

    Things I haven't tried yet:
    - Shell extension viewer - I wouldn't know what to look for
    - Using Process Monitor - quite frankly it's intimidating and I also wouldn't know what to look for
    - Deleting indexing information - does disabling Windows Search nullify the need for this? I'd hate to delete it and have that not be the appropriate fix and have to re-index

    Any other suggestions or ideas?

    Extremely long and incomplete boot

This may be a long shot. My PC hung at boot yesterday after typing the password - see Can't Login - Further Troubleshooting Steps?

I ran chkdsk c: /spotfix and all is now fine. Someone has also suggested running chkdsk c: /r.

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

    • I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

    • Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.
That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.

  4. Issues and extremely long loading of Music folder

    Music

    Hello,

Thank you for posting your concern here in Microsoft Community and welcome to the Windows 10 Family. I would be happy to assist you.

I would suggest you to place the music files in the Music folder under My Documents in the same drive where the Operating System is installed for the Music App to start syncing.

However if the issue still persist, I would suggest you follow the below steps to restore the default Libraries in Windows and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Step 1 : Show the Libraries

    • Go to This PC ( Computer )
    • Click on View
    • Click on Navigation Pane
    • Check “show all folders”
    • Check “Show Libraries”
    • Do not uncheck anything that is already checked
Step 2 : Restore Default Libraries

    • Now,
    • Locate your libraries in the left hand pane
    • Right Click
    • Click on Restore Default Libraries

Hope the above information was helpful. If you need further information, feel free to write to us and we would be glad to help you.

    Thank You
