  1. Issues on a TAR file

I had a TAR file size of over 90 GB stored in my HDD, I'm trying to Extract it to a drive. some files are getting extracted with no issues, but some pause the extraction and say 0x80070003:the system cannot find the path specified. and it happens for a lot of files. It is all my old course content so mostly videos and when I try to open any video directly by navigating through the TAR, I get the same error. every video gives me the same error.what is the issue here?

    :)

    Reset Windows for .tar Files

    Hi DJMorigeau

    Sory, I was offline.

If .tar files are associated to unknown, then if you double click a .tar file Windows would ask you what to open it with, is that what you want?

If it is to break the current association, the trick is to create a fake program, then associate the tar files to that and then delete the fake program.

    1

    Open Windows File Explorer

On the view Ribbon (tab) check the box marked 'File Name Extensions'

    Close File Explorer

    2

Right click your Desktop and choose New - Text File

Right click that text file and choose rename, then change the file extension on that new file from .txt to .exe

    Confirm the change

    3

Right click a .tar file, choose open with - Choose another App

Check the box marked 'Always use this app to open .tar files' - IMPORTANT!

Scroll to the bottom and click 'More Apps'

Again scroll to the bottom and choose 'Find another app on this PC'

Navigate to the dummy file exe on your Desktop and click OK

The .tar file will not open, this is expected

    4

Delete the fake exe file on your Desktop and restart (not shut down) your PC

The file association will then be removed!

    Reset Windows for .tar Files

    Hi DJMorigeau

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Do you have a specific archive application you want to open .tar files with in Windows 10, can you not set the file association on .tar files, please provide more details.

Where are you having the problem with .tar files, is Windows trying to open them when you download them in a browser, or is it when you want to use them with some application
