Windows 10: Issues with ethernet connection.

Hello, I am having some problems with my ethernet connection. Hovering over network icon on the taskbar displays "Not connected - No connections are available. I have noticed the connection has stopped working after my computer shut down unexpectingly. I found out in the device manager, Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller has a warning symbol on the icon. Looking in the properties the device status displays "Windows is still setting up the class configuration for this device. (Code 56)" I have seen other threds about the same issue but most explain how it's a VPN issue. I do not currently have a VPN and never have installed one, though I do have VMware which creates virtual ethernet adaptors, but I don't know why that would cause a problem.

If anyone has any other fixes, I would appreciate it!

Ethernet connection issues

This issue might happen if the power saver option is set.

I suggest you to follow the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

• 
  Press Windows Key + X key and click on
  Device Manager.
  
• 
  Expand Network Adapters.
  
• 
  Right-click on the Network Adapter listed and click on
  Properties.
  
• 
  Click on Power Management tab.
  
• 
  Uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power box and click on
  Ok.
  
• 
  Restart the computer and check if the issue is resolved.

My reliable ethernet connection no longer works

Hi Marcia,

To better understand the query, please answer the following questions:

• After restarting is your computer in normal mode or not?
• Are you getting any error message?

I suggest you to reset the modem\ router and check if the Ethernet connection works or not.

If still the issue persist then I suggest you to follow the steps from the below article

Cell and Ethernet connection

1. Since when are you facing this issue?
   
2. Have you recently made any changes on the device prior to this issue?
   
3. What is the make and model number of the computer?
   
   
   
   
   
   You may try the below suggested steps to fix the issue.
   
   
   

1. Click on Start, Type in Control Panel and look for Network & Sharing Center.
   
2. Click on ‘Change adapter settings’ on the left pane.
   
3. You will be able to see the list of networks available.
   
4. Click on Advanced menu and select ‘Advanced Settings’.
   
5. You will be able to see the different types of connections under advanced settings Window.
   
6. Select Ethernet and use the arrows at the right side in the current Window in order to reorder the connections.
   
7. Click on OK and check the status of the issue.
