Windows 10: Issues with folder location?

Issue with folder location?

Hello. I need some help with something way out of my league. I imagine it is something that you tech dudes could help me out with. I’d really appreciate it if you can!

I have an older laptop with windows 10. I pulled the hard drive from it(since it wouldn’t power on) and hooked it up to my brand new windows 10 laptop through usb. Let’s call my old hard drive Hdd1 and my new laptop internal Hdd2, for simplicity sakes.

I thought that I could copy and paste the folders from inside the user/myname folder from hdd1 and paste them into user/myname folder on hdd2. I figured it would do what it normally does and recognize that there are already folders with the corresponding names in that location, and then copy the sub folders and files. Apparently, it doesn’t work this way in the user folder(I am not tech savvy). My downloads folder had no issues. But my documents folder from hdd1 seems to have replaced the documents folder from hdd2 in the main user/myname folder. The hdd2 documents folder got moved into the one drive folder, somehow. Now, the main documents folder shortcut(the one listed under my pc in file explorer) is linked with the documents folder that has been reallocated into the one drive folder. So basically, I can’t seem to figure out how change the directory of the “Actual” system documents folder from the one drive folder, back into just the standard c: user/myname folder itself.

I tried selecting properties and moving it and I also tried changing the location link. It didn’t work and I’m just confused. It’s not a huge deal, since it doesn’t affect functionality, but I am being driven nuts by this, just because I can’t figure it out! Do I really have to use the registry editor to fix this? Or is there something that I’m missing?

Vista Ultimate - 'User' Folder Location

No tried that.

Can copy the entire folder to D; but Windows still points to C as the location. Can change personal folders location to a folder on D;, but this still leaves hidden files etc on C;. Thus meaning there are 2 Users folders. Have managed to change the Public folder location to D;, with some registry tweaks, but this doesnt seem to work for the entire folder.

any more suggestions

 

Correct Directory Location For Pictures Folder

"Now Documents, Videos etc say file location is This PC. But Pictures file location is C:\Users\PeteyBoPetey\Pictures."

If we understand you correctly, the issue is that Pictures doesn't appear in the left panel under This PC. The correct location IS C:\Users\PeteyBoPetey\Pictures. This is only an issue of using Step 8 in the tutorial to add it back to the list. See if this screenshot is what you want to achieve- put Pictures folder back in list on L.

 

Downloads folder is the Documents folder

I suggest you to Restore to Default the folders and document settings and see if it helps.

Step 1:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Download folder.
• Right click on the Download Folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

Step 2:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Documents folder.
• Right click on the Document folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

After performing above steps change the settings as you required and check if it helps.
