Windows 10: Issues with Win 10 Feature Update 2004 14091.450

My Wife’s HP Notebook 15-AC115TU with WIN 10 64 bit HOME Version 2004 Build 19041.45024/8/20 Principal use - Playing Slot Games on Firefox, is having serious issues.

Since that Update, every day, we have had issues that come back to the Updates of 24 & 25/8/20 until the morning of 28/8/20, when the PC was started, it was obvious that the OS had been Re-Installed, as the Desktop was the Blue Windows Background and all the desktop Icons were moved to, the Left Side and Outlook Email was not working, as the PST File was no longer available and Mouse Pointer was back to Small White. I tried working with it Games on Firefox and Firefox kept failing, with a Notification to Re-Open Tab and Send info to Firefox, plus other issues like suddenly Re-Starting and losing everything all work. I then did a Restart which went through to the Login Panel PIN and then the Message “Preparing Windows….” Then a Popup appeared which had two Buttons – Sign Out & Close. If I select Sign Out, it repeats the Restart and Message “Preparing Windows… “ If I select Close, I am able to work, in a fashion, but nothing is saved to disk. The Restart appears to be in a Loop, continually repeating itself. I sent the Message to a Windows Advisor who suggested the Power Off, Power On Method of getting to WINRE, which I did. It went through some diagnostics Etc and back to the Photo Background, where I was able to login again, but with PPN, instead of my normal Login Creds. This First Login presented the Blue Windows Background, as it had done before. After the Drive Light activity stopped, I reset my Outlook Email and did a couple of other things and decided to test a Restart, which Re-Produced the previous problem again – back to where I had started. I believe I require a Remote Session with a Senior Tech to examine and to perform a Repair Install. Bear in mind this has never been right since the 24/8/20 Update. Another Point I wish to make – I do not like Windows Update performing an Unattended Re-Install, as they have done here. Microsoft has caused this Problem and they can Fix IT.

30/08/20 ----- I could not obtain a Chat Session, after numerous attempts – waited for ages for a connection to be established. I do not know why this was the case, as about a week or two earlier, I had used a Chat Session for my own PC, which is Win 10 64bit Pro.

I decided then to have a go at fixing it myself.

1 Used HP Recovery to perform,

a Re-Install back to Ver 1903 18362.1016

b BIOS Update to F31

c HP Wireless Button Driver

d Realtek RTL8xxx Bluetooh Driver Win 10 DCHU

e Hp Performance Tune Up Check

f HO OS System Diagnostics – No issues found.

2 Independent of HP Recovery,

a Check Start Up Programs and Delete some not needed.

b Ran Clean Disk

c Ran SFC /scannow.

d Ran CHKDSK

e Changed Page File to Custom 12000 – 32000, to improve performance

f Created a Restore Point.

Results.

General Performance is reasonable, except for Slow Start and Stop. Start Up goes to Desktop Icons and Task bar Icons in reasonable time, but Hard Drive Light stays on for a long time afterwards and, Task Manager shows High CPU and HDD Usage for some minutes afterwards and PC cannot be used until HD Light goes off. Total Start Time to No Disk LED is 3:40. STOP was not timed but Black Screen is about normal, but it takes a long time for Disk Led to go off and final Shutdown is reached.

When it was Stable, I downloaded and Installed Version 2004 14091.450.

31/08/20 – My Wife went into Heart of Vegas Slot Games using Firefox, which, very soon, again failed with the same characteristics as previously on 29/08/20.

Browsers Crash, playing Slot Games and Outlook 2016 has issue with Hyperlinks.

Cannot diagnose precise causes – only a problem after Windows Update to 2004 14091.450.

1/09/20 – Made decision to go back to a previous version.

Using Update Recovery, went back last known Stable Version - Version 1903 18362.1016.

Testing Operation. Again using Firefox and Heart of Vegas Slot Game, have not had any Crashes, as yet, after about 2 hours of testing.

This Version appears, to be Stable, as it was before Windows Update applied Version 2004 14091.450 for the second time.

My concerns now are:-

· What is the problem with this 2004 Version that causes all of this trouble. It is evident from a Google Search, that 2004 has had a lot of problems and it appears to me, that it still has unidentified problems.

· I do not see how I can prevent it automatically Updating 2004 again – there appears to be no provision for Blocking Feature Updates, contrary to what is found on Google.

Feature Update Win 10 Pro 2004

The Feature Update Win 10 2004 appears to have installed successfully on my computer.

It is listed in Settings, System, About.

However, the Update has wiped out all of my previous Windows Update, View Update History which is now blank.

Moreover, the Feature Update Win 10 2004 itself is not listed in Settings, Update and Security, Windows Update, View Update History.

Is this important?

And if so, how can it be repaired?

Feature Update Win 10 Pro 2004

AFAIK, update history is cleared after installing feature update. This is expected behaviour, nothing to worry about!

Before upgrading anything else to 2004, I would suggest checking out the current Known Issues list.
