Windows 10: It is 2024 and Windows taskbar icons are still disappearing after waking from sleep

Hello, I'm yet another user who has had the frustrating issue of having my taskbar icons disappear when my PC awakens from a longer sleep. I am aware that restarting explorer.exe from task manager fixes the problem, but it's only a temporary fix and I don't want to have to do that multiple times a day. Like many, I have a script that I run to do it for me, but honestly, this is getting very frustrating. Things I have tried. 1. Reinstalling my graphics card drivers after using DDU to erase them from my PC.2. Did the whole SFC /scannow /scanhealth /restorehealth loop. Multiple times.3. Made su

Thank you for posting your reply. Apologize for the delay in response.

I suggest you to check which devices are configured to wake up the computer from sleep by following the steps below:

• Right click on Start icon and select Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type the command line below:

Powercfg /devicequery wake_armed

3. Check if the devices (Keyboard, Mouse, Ethernet cable) are listed.

If the system is not going to sleep and going to Hybernate, the only option to wake up is to press the Power button.

Windows 11 Taskbar Icons Issue after waking up from Sleep state

Steps to reproduce:

1. Click on the Start button on the taskbar.
   
2. Click on the Power button.
   
3. Click on Sleep.
   
4. Keep the PC in sleep mode for 5 mins.
   
5. Wake up the PC with moving your mouse or hitting any key of your keyboard.
   
6. You will see one or more icons from your taskbar not being displayed.

How to temporally troubleshoot this problem:

By clicking on each hidden app's icon, you will recover the visibility of its icons.

Is this an Issue/Bug?

Yes.

How this issue affect on your usability?

It makes to degrade the high usability the windows used to have before. Very annoying issue.

 

System Icons on taskbar

Are you referring to the clock system icon on the taskbar?

If so, I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below:

• 
  Click on the search bar on the taskbar.
  
• 
  Type system icons.
  
• 
  Under Turn System Icons ON or OFF, turn On the Clock and check with the issue.
