Windows 10: It seems that using the default language setting English Germany causes issues with...

I have a customer who types in multiple languages, the main ones being English and German. He prefers to have his display language as English, and wants to use the German keyboard, so the simplest solution has been to use English Germany, as this also allows him to keep other German formats such as Dates and times. The issue we have discovered, was that while using Word or Outlook, office was not automatically detecting the language when changing between English and German, whereas when I signed onto his device, it would detect the language automatically. Months were spent trying to work on

I understand that you are unable to change the default language to English. I will be glad to assist you with this.

If you haven't tried the steps below, please try and check if it helps:

1. Press Windows key + I to open settings.

2. Click on "Time and Language".

3. Click on "Region and Language" on the left pane.

4. From the drop down list, choose the appropriate country for receiving localized content.

5. Under "language" click on English and click on "set as default".

6. If "English" is not available, you can click on "add language" and select the language.

7. Click on "set as default".

8. Once that is set, you can click on the other languages and choose to remove it.

9. Click on "additional date, time and regional settings".

10. Under "region" click on "change location" and make sure the home

location is set correctly.

11. Restart your computer and check if the issue persists.

Cannot set English as the default language

I had opposite problem. I had English as my default language and after updating Win 10 to latest Windows 10 version 1511 I can no longer set English as default display and system language and had to revert to the former version of Windows. An assistant from
Microsoft who remotely connected to my laptop couldn't figure out the problem too.
