Windows 8 has reached the RTM milestone

Today, I am excited to announce that Windows 8 has been released to manufacturing (RTM)! This means we’ve completed the product development and testing of the product and have started handing off the final code to our OEM partners. They can now begin preparing new Windows 8 PCs and devices they’ll introduce starting with General Availability. I know this is obvious but..

I`m in the market for a new cpu. When I say new, there`s a specific shop that i`m buying from so I don`t need any suggestions. My question is this. Which of the following 2 chips is faster
1. core i7-4820k
2. core i7-4790t

I can`t find (proper) benchmarks online. It seems obvious that thye cpu with the higher number is faster but is it ? I ask because the 4820 is cheaper. Is it something to do with the "T" and the"K" ?

 

Windows 7 RTM And Asus (C-media) Driver fix

Some of you may of had issues with the rtm when it first came out, if you are running a C-Media oxygen based sound card such as an Auzentech or Asus Xonar. I know I did.

I had gotten a copy of the rtm from a buddy of mine that has his msds and owns a shop, upon install everything was fine until i loaded the audio driver and then I lost IE8, ALL adobe software and other things.

At the time everyone had said there's a bum copy of rtm out there that has that problem so I thought my buddy stiffed me with a bogus copy of rtm from a less that reputable source, even though I thought i saw him get it from MSDS and burn it.

Today I grabbed the download of Enterprise RTM 90 day trial from the MSDS site myself and burnt it and installed it. THIS IS A WINDOWS LIVE SUBSCRIPTION DOWNLOAD ANYONE CAN GET.

Except this time when i went into the asus site ther was a message that said "THIS will not work with the RTM- this will be resolved soon":shadedshu

So i started looking for another option, knowing full and well that i had a legit copy. After a bit of searching and other mucking around I found a fix, but you have to make a few extra steps.

So here are the details on the steps i took. Keep in mind, some of this software i have to install for other reasons, but this is the sequence that i had done it in. and this was with the 64 bit RTM and using the xonar dx PCIE card. I have used the same driver for the auzentech and it works- i keep the current drivers on a flash drive, and this one worked fine with the RC.

1.install RTM of your choice, get all the online updates you can but DO NOT LET windows try to find an audio driver.when you can get no more updates thru windows update go to step 2

also note- if you are going to install chipset or video driver updates, wait on that until you have the audio running.

2. this step i have to do because of our lighting and sound software we run, but it may or not be important to this, but it was next. INstall both the x86 and x64 versions of Visual c++redistributable, and the servicepacks for each one.

3. Install The Direct X SDK- NOT THE END USER RUNTIME.
(once again, this is something i have to do because of the software we use, this may not neccisarily be a required step, but it was the next step.)

4. Install the listed asus xonar Windows 7 driver- it claims its a beta, it also cliams it will not run on the rtm. last update on thier site is 07/06/09. follow directions and reboot afterwards.

At this point your 32 bit version of IE8 should not work, but the 64 bit side will. if you had adobe reader installed, it will not launch either.

5. Go back to the asus support page, and get the patch for Vista 64 Listed as "Patch File for Xonar serial audio cards" 06/16/09 update.

It will say that its a patch for world of warcraft and Command and Conquer, and install it.

reboot- and your IE8 and adobe or whatever else has failed should work now.*Cool

PLEASE keep in mind- I DID NOT TRY THIS WITH AN AUZENTECH CARD YET-BUT THEY USE THE SAME DRIVER- IT MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU.

I am redoing one of mine that has an auzentech later this week, and I will post the results then.

Those of you that try this, please list your results, I will be monitoring this thread to see if any of you have the same or different results.

Feel free to PM me as well. I am also letting the asus folks know this.

Also- I would of posted all the links in the asus site except, the site dont work that way- you will always wind up back at support home no matter what link you try to use. you have to go there yourself.
