Let me be frank and just answer a few of the responses that'll most likely come through before I begin.#1: I'm well aware of what this can do.#2: I didn't ask to be told whether I should disable windows updates or not.#3: I'm not asking to turn it off temporarily, I want a permanent solution.Now lets chat. Windows Update WU & Windows Update Medic WUM. WU can be disabled via Services however WUM cannot be disabled via Services and upon restarting your PC, WUM will prompt the Disabled WU to return to a Manual state, allowing updates to happen once again. Have also gone through GPEDIT and

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Windows 10 fails to update


When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.

 

Windows update error 0x8007007e

Hi,

Getting the error 0x8007007e could be caused by a third party antivirus software that's blocking the update. It's also possible that the Windows Update Components could be corrupted.

For is to sort out this problem, we suggest disabling the antivirus software before trying the update again. Follow these steps:

• Right click the antivirus icon in the system tray (on the right bottom corner) and select
  Disable.
• If that doesn’t work, double click the antivirus icon. Select the Disable option from the pop up.
• Try the update one more time once the antivirus is disabled. Don't forget to enable it back.

If the issue persists, then please reset the Windows Update Components. Follow the steps
here.

By the way, what is your network connection type? Is the computer connected directly to the internet? If not, are you using any modem, router, or other network device?
