Windows 10: ITT Tech Closing

Actually, I didn't really have a problem with it. It was one of the local options that did not require me to stay on campus. Originally, I went to this school called Baker College back in 1998...but I wanted a computer degree, back then computer degrees were just starting to evolve. So during my first semester, they changed the curriculum and turned the computer class I was in, into a computer electronic engineering type class and they started having us solder capacitors to circuit boards....I was like, this is not what I want so I dropped it.

I waited for any college to have a real computer degree and ITT was actually the first, with their associates in information technology. Back then, it covered windows NT and 2000, active directory, networking, security, etc. Unfortunately I did not learn anything as that's what I did for my daily job and pretty much just got it to get a degree under the belt, but they do make you take normal general ed classes like math, English and I even had Art which was horrible. It was like any college really, you could show up, get marked down that you were there and then we took off to go to the bar. *Smile

Anyhow, I paid what I paid because I thought it was worth it at the time. Unfortunately the degree only lasted me so long as the roles I am trying to get into require a bachelors, so now I kind of went the same path again lol but this time with DeVry. The main reason I went with them is they transferred most of my credits from ITT and gave me a college transfer scholarship of $2500 per semester which allowed to get me a bachelors in 2 1/4 years instead of doing a 4 year program somewhere else.

 

I went to college back in the early 80's and there were colleges that had fine CS programs. By the late 90's I can't imagine that many schools didn't have great programs by then.

 

Well yeah there were generic CS programs and the majority was just coding (most of them still are, I am not a coder)...I was looking for something specific dealing with current technology and enterprise architectures, ITT had some new director that created this program. I even talked to them 2 years ago and they don't have any program that resembles the program I was in, most places don't nowadays. The schools want you to specialize in one type of thing basically, I'm not that type of person since for the past 25 years I have had my hand in everything within IT.

Just a FYI to anyone that did go here, I did get a response back from my loan provider so it doesn't hurt to ask:

We are awaiting additional information on ITT Technical School loan forgiveness. It is not clear what the eligibility will be for the forgiveness or what the process will be. It is our practice to notify eligible borrowers and send a Closed School application. Please continue to watch the news as this story develops.

 

The problem I have with that type of focus on one specialization is that when in the workforce it's hard to migrate to another part of IT. A nice general college education will let you do that and I don't know of any person in a company that wasn't allowed to move around to do different things IT related.
