Windows 10: I’ve been getting a message on my laptop to upgrade my windows seven. I now want to upgrade...

I would like to upgrade my dell laptop from Microsoft 7 to Microsoft 11. I’ve been getting a message to do this, but I click the button remind me later. So now I want to upgrade, but that message isn’t coming up at the moment. How do I find that message within my computer or do I have to go online and do the download from there? Thanks

After upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10, laptop ceased functioning.

• Was the upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 successful?
• Kindly explain further what happens when you turn on your Windows laptop.
• Are you getting any error messages? If you do, kindly post it here for a more accurate troubleshooting suggestion.

In-place upgrade - XP to 10 without losing the apps

Wolfgang, you need at least two steps (Vista & Seven) between XP and 10, the Eight can be bypassed:

• XP can only be in-place upgraded to Vista, not Seven or later
• Vista can be in-place upgraded to Seven but not Eight or later
• Seven can be in-place upgraded to 10
• Ergo: XP to Vista is a must, as well as Vista to Seven but then you can bypass the Eight and jump to 10

 

Can't upgrade laptop to Windows 10

Thanks for the suggestion.

I tried Windows Defender and discovered it was not turned on and when I tried to turn it on it would quickly turn itself off again. I used another anti-virus program to check out the laptop but it found no problem. Obviously this laptop has some problems.

My next step is to put the original drive back into the machine and try the Windows 10 upgrade from that and if that also fails do a restore of this laptop to the original Windows 7.
