Hooking up the computer to the tv

I just got a new Acer Computer with an HDMI port. Question #1. On my tv does it matter which HDMI I use, like the one marked out? Now that it's hooked up what I see is my desktop background picture and in the lower left is the taskbar. I can hover over
a browser and, in this case, 2 windows show up. The problem is that they won't open up. I went to internet options, then to connections, clicked on LAN settings and unchecked the proxy server, clicked okay then clicked okay again. It still won't open anything
on the taskbar. Question #2, At one time the pointer was on the tv, when I was clicking on the browsers but now it stays on the computer.? Please tell me what steps to take to fix this HELP!!!!

 

Computer to TV via HDMI Resolution not supported on TV

When I hook my computer up to my TV via HDMI the TV says the resolution is not supported but changing the computer's resolution does not fix the issue.

 

HDMI cable not detected by computer

I want to connect to a monitor or TV with HDMI. No signal to either. Monitor says "no signal coming from your computer".

I have tried with no success:

• HDMI directly into Nvidia 980 HDMI slot
  
• HDMI directly into motherboard slot, Intel i6700k with integrated graphics
  
• HDMI indirectly into HDMI(female)-to-Displayport(male) adapter, into Nvidia 980 Displayport slots
  

I have verified:

• Cable plugged into second computer, connected fine to monitor and TV
  
• Tried different HDMI cable, same results on both computers
  
• Displayport slots on Nvidia 980 work on monitor with DP-mDP cable
  
• Both monitor and TV are 4k. Output is 4k on other computer, and 4k using Displayport on this computer.
  
• Used newest graphics driver for Nvidia 980
  
• Used old graphics driver (2020) for Nvidia 980
  

All cases, other computer connected successfully and this computer received "no signal"

Other than the hardware checks and the driver checks, I am not sure what other steps I should try.

Since it applies to both Nvidia 980 and motherboard, and since Displayport works but HDMI through Displayport doesn't work, I feel like there is some issue in the computer working with HDMI signals.
