DVD Burner Driver downgraded to CD-Rom

When I did a clean install of Windows 10. When I completed the install, my DVD burner driver was downgraded to just CD-Rom drive. i can read CD-Roms but can not read DVDs or burn them.

The driver is HL DT ST DVD+-RW GS40N. I have uninstalled the driver and Windows reinstalls the driver. How do I correct the problem?

The operating system (Windows 10) sees my DVD-RW ans a CD-ROM.





This question has been posted to Microsoft by others, but the answer given has not been satisfactory. For instance, the Microsoft representative has asked that the user visit the manufacturer's website to get the latest driver.
However, the driver for any DVD-RW is already in the Windows 10 operating system. The problem is that the OS recognizes the device as a CD-ROM and installs the driver for a CD-ROM.

Here are some things that do not work

1. Uninstall the CD-ROM from Device Manager and reboot. That just gets the CD-ROM reinstalled.

The first event is Windows 10 noticing that the device is not present

2. Try a third-party Disk-Burner. NERO Express only sees the drive as a CD-ROM and will not burn a DVD-RW

3. Sometimes the laser burns out in the DVD and only the CD laser still works. I replaced the DVD-RW with an identical model (ASUS DRW-RW-24B1ST) and reproduced all the symptoms.

4. Try the Microsoft Fix-It. That only works for Windows 7.

So... assuming Microsoft really does have a fix for this issue, please disclose it.
