  1. Japanese laptop for non japanese speaking person - Having to click CTRL + ALT + key to ALT...

    Hi,

my parents are Polish but they bought their laptop in Japan. It comes with additional keys, and the main issue is that to access special signs you have to click 3 keys instead of two. In polish we have lots of special characters and typing them in pretty uncomfortable.
I tried using SharpKeys to bind the alt + ctrl to one of the unused keys, but it doesnt allow to bind more than one key at once. I also wanted to try AutoHotKey, but dont really know how to, plus it really doesnt seem like the best aproach.

Tried to find some in-build windows option to take care of it, but couldnt find anything. Any help would be great.

    ctrl alt del to logon

    Hi Diane,

Conflicts with the user account settings is one of the possible reasons why the secure sign-in option is enabled on your computer even if the box in the settings is not checked. I would suggest that you enable and disable the
Require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. You can follow the steps below:

    • Press the Windows key + R.
    • Type control userpasswords2 or netplwiz and press the Enter key.
    • Click the Advanced tab.
    • Under Secure sign-in, check the Require users to press Ctrl + Alt + Delete checkbox.
    • Click Apply.
    • Restart your computer.
    • Open the same settings again and uncheck the Require users to press Ctrl + Alt + Delete checkbox and follow the
      steps 5 and 6.

Should you need further assistance, don't hesitate to get back to us.

Switching Japanese Windows with English menus

Yes, I do mean those keys. I tried just switching to Japanese keyboard, as you suggested, but those keys didn't work. Also, the selection key is normally the spacebar in Japan but I could only get IME to work with the Tab key (for those who aren't familiar with Japanese typing: you type in Roman characters, then press a selection key and it steps you through a list of options for the word you are typing in Japanese characters). Did you get the special keys to work as they do in native Japanese mode?

It may well be that I was missing something, although I did try every option I could think of. In any event, as I said, I gave in and now have Japanese Windows running with English menus and everything seems to be working perfectly.
    Thanks,

    Mike

Japanese IME shortcuts have been changed?

    Hi,

It seems that since a few days ago, the Japanese IME keyboards shortucts have been changed? Before to switch from my "normal" input method (French) to the Japanese one, I had to press ALT + SHIFT, but I realised yesterday that now it's WINDOWS + SPACE...
And all of the shortcuts I was using: ALT+² in order to switch from hiragana, to katakana, to romaji for instance, don't work anymore. What happened? Also, is there a list of all the new shortcuts I could use?

    Thank you,

    Flavien
