JPEG folders allocated 12GB, showing up as 10TB

I recently noticed two folders full of jpegs are now reporting 3.92GB and 7.7GB "size on disk", but approximately 5TB each "size", according to the folder properties in Explorer.

My hard disk is only 55GB large, so this is obviously wrong.

Each folder contains a few hundred jpegs which used to be ~8MB in size - each of them are now being reported as 8GB each. More importantly, I can't open any of these files in any picture viewers.

Here's the output of how Treesize views the reported size and allocated size of these folders.

Have I permanently lost these images, or can they be recovered somehow? I'm running Windows 10 build 18363.

  2. Which is the Fastest and reliable 10TB hard disk?

Of the listed drives, I'd trust Segate Enterprise Capacity 10TB the most. That said, backup is important.
