Windows 10: JPG and JPEG file types cannot be associated or set with default app

Hi,New HP Envy PC, Windows 11 pre-installed. When I use Open With to change the default app from Microsoft Photos to something else, there is no option to set a different app as the default file type.When I go into settings and try to associate JPG or JPEG, they do not come up. When I review all of the file types available, JPG and JPEG do not appear.Microsoft Photos will open them, but I cannot associate the extension with another file type.This problem seems to occur with some but not all file types.This seems to be a known problem.Is there a fix?TIA.Rich

Restore Default File Type Associations in Windows 10  


Not to pester you, but it is inconvenient to "open with" every single time, and I remain quite perplexed why every other possible file extension appears to be listed in "Settings/System/Default apps/CHOOSE DEFAULT APPS BY FILE TYPE" but not .zip. It has always been possible prior to Windows 10 to associate ANY file extension with a default program. I'm not sure what you mean by ".zip is not listed by default." How else would one permanently associate a program with a file extension? The link I gave you, provided again below, as well as others I could find - indicates that that other people have .zip listed in their file type listings. Have you checked your listings available at location I've specified above? I have ... .yps, .z, .z96... and no .zip. Do you not see a .zip extension either but see essentially all others? We understand that you're having issues with the default file app association on your computer. To assist you with your concern, you may refer to the steps below on how to change the default setting of your application:

• In Search Windows textbox, search for choose a default app for each type of file and set .PDF and any other file extensions to point to your choice for default
  programs. Do not use Adobe Reader to set the association.
• Navigate to %systemroot%\system32 and locate the OEMDefaultAssociations.xml file. Make a backup of it just in case.
• Open the OEMDefaultAssociations.xml file and keep it open using
  Notepad.exe.
  
• Open PowerShell or CMD and run it as Administrator.
• Enter the following: Dism /Online /Export-DefaultAppAssociations:C:\AppAssoc.xml
• Open C:\AppAssoc.xml with Notepad.exe
• Copy the entire contents of AppAssoc.xml and replace the entire content of OEMDefaultAssociations.xml.
• Save OEMDefaultAssociations.xml.
• Delete C:\AppAssoc.xml (optional).

After doing the steps, you may now change the default file app association for opening .pdf.

File Type php Missing in Windows File Association Settings

I would like to associate the php file format with a text editor utility such as Sublime Text. When I attempt to "always open file type with Sublime Text" via the context menu in Windows Explorer, it does not work. When I open Settings > Default Apps > Choose Default Apps by file type, the php file format appears to be missing from the list - see screenshot. I expected it to be listed below the .php3 file type.

On a related note, I was also unable to associate the css and html file types with Sublime Text (or any other software) via Windows Explorer. I was able to work around this by using the FileTypesMan utility. However, the FileTypesMan utility is not able to associate php files either. Please advise. TIA.
