Windows 10: JPG and PNG file format not supported for some reason, can anyone help?

I have a couple of photos saved onto a USB drive and everything has been fine for ages until today when i tried to open some of the images and received the message "it appears we dont support this file format".


I have tried opening the files in multiple different apps, including paint where i get a message saying "this is not a valid bitmap file, or its format is not currently supported.


I have also tried troubleshooting and checking for abnormalities but nothing can be detected.


If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this or just what the problem is, that would be great

Run CMD


1. diskpart
2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

2. select disk #
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.

File format not supported

The phone does not have support for that many file formats (it is not a PC), and thus doesn't let you download/save content it knows it doesn't have an app for (an app that could handle the file format).



In some cases, it could also be a case of the server not sending the correct, so called, MIME type header for the file (the phone does not use the file name or even the file extension to determine whether it can handle the file, but the MIME header info
that the server should be sending correctly for each file/content type).

From where are you trying to download music? What format is the music stored in there?



Note also, that if you download it from a server on the internet, the server must also be configured to send the correct, so called, MIME header type for the file type/format in quetion, or the phone won't be able to recognize what the content is (because
it relies on the MIME header info and not, e.g., a filename in the URL).



Besides that, the music file format must be something that the phone supports, or you need to download it to a PC and convert it first (if the file is not available in the format that your phone supports).
