just bought a new motherboard for my computer, now windows 10 is deactivated

so a few years ago i got a completely pre-built gaming computer as a christmas present and it came with windows 10 installed as a part of it's large price tag around 1000 dollars. i don't understand pc building at all so i've been having a friend help me upgrade parts of my computer slowly and today we finally replaced my ancient motherboard, but then we ran into a problem:

the version of windows 10 i had installed and activated on my computer before it was upgraded deactivated itself and i was never told the key by the company i bought the computer from cyberpowerpc, they're garbage btw.

what do i do? there's no reason why i should have to buy ANOTHER key, right? my computer came with windows 10 pre-installed.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 deactivated itself

Transferring your license depends on how Windows 10 was originally configured on your computer.

If its a full retail store bought license online or offline, it is transferable to a new computer or motherboard.

If its the free upgrade from a retail store bought Windows 7 or Windows 8 license, it is transferable to a new computer or motherboard.

If its the free upgrade from a OEM preinstalled Windows 7 or Windows 8 license, it is NOT transferable to a new computer or motherboard.

Learn more about transferring your license:

In your case, you need to purchase a new full license.

  3. install new windows 10 on new computer

Linking is only part of the store and is more likely to working if its a retail license.

It depends on how Windows 10 was originally configured on your computer.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
