Windows 10: Just curious: the code to unlock personal vault is sent to Gmail, why?

Out of curiosity..
When unlocking OneDrive > Personal Vault, in my case..., the security code is sent to my Gmail account.
That is okay. However, I wonder why. Maybe it has to do with some of my settings, I don't know.

It looks a bit odd though that another provider is used to send the security codes to.
Like what will happen if I delete my Gmail account?
Why not send the code to my Outlook account?

Again, maybe it has something to do with some settings, done way in the past.

Personal Vault - How to change verification from code to PIN ?

Currently I am using a code sent to me by mail to unlock the Personal Vault.

In fact, I need to unlock it twice.

1st: r-click on OneDrive icon in the taskbar and select Unlock Personal Vault

(code is being sent)

2nd: r-click on OneDrive icon in the taskbar, select view online, enter my user-id and password,

then

within OneDrive, the personal vault shows as locked, r-click on it select Unlock (code is sent)

2x a code and 1x user-id + pw.

On Internet I read about the option to use PIN to unlock the Personal Vault.

Q: How can I change from code to PIN ?

Personal Vault Will Not Unlock

I received the following error: "Something went wrong with your Personal Vault" and goes on to say "Your personal vault is locked. To access your personal vault please unlock it again." The related code is 0x80316003. I recently installed the Windows 10
home build 1903 a few days ago and enabled the personal vault feature the same day.

Note, I can access Personal Vault via the browser interface but NOT via file explorer.

You get the code from the verification method you selected like in step 7 below. The available verification methods will depend on what you added to your Microsoft account security settings.
