Windows 10: Just got a new monitor and the refresh rate is stuck at 60Hz

I just bought a brand new LG Ultrawide 1440p monitor capable of up to 160Hz, and no matter how hard I try I cannot get a higher option than 60Hz. I've updated my Iris Xe and the LG drivers with no luck. I have a Surface Laptop 4 connected to a Thinkpad USB-C Gen 1 docking station. Whenever I lower the resolution down to 1080p, I have the option for 120 but not at 1440p. If there is a solution to this please let me know.

Monitor Refresh Rate stuck at 60Hz

Hello Mosken,

I fixed the issue, i dont how but the resolution had change on nvidia control panel to UHD/FHD and the monitor was stuck at 60hz, changed the resolution to normal and now im getting the 165hz.

1. What is the make and model of the computer?
2. What is the Windows 10 version and Build installed? (Type winver in Windows search/Run command) to provide the details.
   

The maximum refresh rate you can use depends on your monitor. If you have multiple monitors connected to your PC, each has its own separate refresh rate setting.



I would suggest you to try the below suggested methods and check if it helps.



Method 1

Check your Cables

Some monitors may have both HDMI and DisplayPort connections, but may be limited to a 60Hz refresh rate when connected via HDMI. In this case, you'd need to use a DisplayPort cable. Check your monitor's specifications or setup guide for more information.



If you're using HDMI, you'll want to ensure you're using a "high speed" HDMI cable and not an older "standard" HDMI cable.

In this scenario I would suggest you to replace the cable with the higher quality display and check the status of the issue.





Method 2

Update Graphics driver

Integrated graphics or older discrete graphics might not support your monitor's refresh rate. Be sure your graphics card supports the monitor's resolution and refresh rate. You need to update your Graphics drivers.

My 144hz monitor is stuck at 60hz.

I have a BenQ XL2430T 1080p 144hz monitor but it's stuck at 60hz. I have an RTX 2060 and I'm using an HDMI 2.0 cable. Windows and Nvidia control panels only say 60hz, and there is no option to change the refresh rate in the monitor settings.
