I uninstalled KB3035583 on both my W7 and 8.1 installations and hid the update, as I haven't decided yet whether I plan to upgrade to W10, or keep my licenses for 7 & 8 and buy a separate one for 10.

I'm hoping that with this update getting Win10 will be that much easier to accomplish. *Smile

I have a Dell Dimension 3100 running Win 8.1 happily and receiving updates. I have checked that KB3035583 is installed. However, that PC has not received the invitation to reserve Win 10.
My home-brew PC, which is also on Win 8.1, received the invitation last week.
I presume the invitations went out in a single broadcast so why has the first machine missed out?

  6. Windows update has to be set to automatic - check that setting. Change it to automatic if necessary and see if the notification is pushed to your machine.

The Win10 app is also a upgrade assistant of sorts - it won't notify you if the machine doesn't meet requirements.

Those are the only two reasons I know for certain.

Well, 8.1 updates are received automatically so perhaps the second suggestion is the one that counts. It seems strange though that there is no way to know if the assessment has been made. Win 8.1 functionality seems fine so I would have thought Win 10 would also function on that PC.

Sorry, I think I worded that poorly. If the assessment fails you will not get the notification to register. I don't know how it reports the results of the assessment - maybe in event viewer, but that's a guess.

After reading the FAQ bullet below, it looks as though you don't even get the gwx.sys app displayed on your taskbar.

I agree with you, if you're running Win8, you should be able to run Win10.

Take a look through these pages to see if anything stands out that matches your machine. There are CPU instructions sets that are required (can't recall them right now):
    Windows 10 Specifications - Microsoft
Windows 10 FAQ Tips - Microsoft

Try searching answers.microsoft to see if anyone over there has an answer - I'm stumped.

Are you not seeing the app or not getting the notification to register.
There's a good chance I misunderstood the issue on the Dell 3100.

Ha! To cap it all, the invitation appeared today so all is in order. Strange delay but such are the mysteries of MS notifications.

  10. Thanks for the update. I knew some users reported a delay, but what I read was in the 30-40 minute range. It's good to know that it might take a day (or more?).

There is a scheduled event that runs than Appraiser at login and also daily. Maybe the darn thing just needs to check the system a few times. Still nothing on my Win7 machine - I've dug fairly deep on that install, so I'm just going to wait until closer to RTM ... it's just a pre-registration option. It let's MS stage the install pieces, some of the Win10 bits deemed stable will be preloaded on the machine. This helps everyone - only the bits last touched by development will need to be downloaded on 29 July.

This was more than a week so I presume there is some sort of broadcast algorithm. Maybe your Win 7 machine will still be selected at some stage.

  12. Yep, the scheduled task does it every day

There are things that MS is working on that dis-qualifies a machine. In my case I believe it to be the AMD or 'missing' drivers (only two on this machine both are HP specific 'drivers'.)

At some point MS will change the list of things to reflect what it deems to have been fixed. At that point the notification icon should appear. On 29 July, the Get Windows 10 icon (gwx) will show up on every machine, the Appraiser will run and test the machine, and hopefully a dialog or some better notification to the user is presented.

Going to Event viewer to only find that your machine doesn't qualify isn't a lot of help if you're not told why.

All of the stuff that comes out now still falls under a pre-release status ... the difference is that Win7 and Win8.1 are outside the scope of the Preview and people are seeing the icon or have heard about it - in this case MS should have made every effort to build a production Appraiser before putting it up in Windows Update.

    Messages are important
"Hi, the Get Windows 10 Appraiser is running on your system to determine to if it qualifies for the FREE Windows 10 update when it is available on 29 Jul 2015.

"Great! the Appraiser determined that your machine meets all of the pre-requirements. Your system will be updated automatically on 29 July 2015."

They'll have to do better than: "Something went wrong!"
"Your system does not meet the requirements at this time due to issues MS is still working on. MS will be working hard to fix all of these before the Current Build release date. The Appraiser is scheduled to run every day and at user login, so when things are fixed, the Get Windows 10 icon will appear in the notification area."

"Your system does not meet the requirements. See gwxAppraiser.log in some folder for details about why your system did not qualify and if there is something you can change (CPU?, motherboard?, memory?...)"

So anyway, I'll wait for MS to finish working on things and let the Appraiser test once a week (nothing special - I'll only fire up the box once a week *Wink) If the gwx icon doesn't show up after 29 July, then I'll look deeper.

FWIW Windows 10 32-bit runs just fine on the Dell Dimension 3100.
