I also got it on a system that I upgraded from Windows 7. I wonder if this is a fix for the problem a lot of people have been encountering regarding the Start Menu and Taskbar icons all of a sudden becoming non-functional. The Microsoft Windows 10 forum is loaded with complaints from people with this issue. It essentially leaves the computer non-functional. Microsoft essentially had no fix for it.

I'll throw my two cents in. I'm one of those unfortunate users that lost the Windows Start Menu, Access to the Start Page, Access to all of my toolbar items, context menu sporadically working. And when it worked, it was terribly slow.
I've tried the repair using the tutorial that is on this forum. I tried two different options and neither did anything for me.
So when I saw this update, it was 5-13-16 and Msft had the page up by then. I was so excited that they had an update to repair the Start Menu. Msft info on update stated it was a problem since 1511. So isn't it about time they came up with a fix for the Start Menu problem.

The update didn't change a thing for me.
I got on Msft and did some searching on Start Menu and decided to post a question. A member replied 'Have you tried the new Msft Troubleshooter?'
I hadn't heard of it. So I tried it and it found that my Tiles were corrupt. Troubleshooter was able to repair that issue. It also found some preinstalled apps that were not installed correctly, but it couldn't fix that issue and had no suggestions. I have a Start Menu now but can't access the Start Page.
Sorry, I know I got off topic, but only a little cuz I installed this update before the corrupt Tiles were repaired. So if I uninstall it and reinstall it now, it might work.
I can't get into the catalog right now - Msft says there's a problem.
The direct link I downloaded is an exe file. If I use it, will it show up in my update history as KB3152599?
Big thanks for posting that direct link,hTconeM9user. I've spent countless hours trying to get my desktop up to speed. At one point I was considering going back to 7 Pro.

  6. I put That any thing that Cluster Head posts is 99% spot on the guy read my post and knew that I must trust his posts so followed the link.
Also what a rude comment to put no big deal.
Some members do have trouble and not all of them are able to get an install to work as it should.
I have been lucky on all my systems I install on, by the update going in and working as it should.
Some members are just not as lucky

    Big deal.

Windows Updates are supposed to be downloaded and installed automatically.
If they are not, there is something wrong with the users' computers.

It is much appreciative that Cluster Head has been taking the troubles to post all those notifications.
My comments are not directed at him.

Plus a little input from Msft.
I had installed the update KB3152599, and it did nothing. I ran Troubleshooter and it found and fixed corrupt tiles. So I thought the update probably didn't install due to the corrupt tiles. So I ran the update once again, and it still seemed to do nothing. It says no restart needed, but I restarted anyway. Nope.

Then I decided to experiment. I have no Start Screen - right. Well from the Start Menu I chose an item and did right click 'Pin to Start'. After I did that beside the Start Menu was a small black screen with my newly created tile on it. Hmmm.
I tried the start button and Windows Logo Button. No Start Screen.

I went to Start Menu and pinned another item to start, and again I saw just to the right of the menu, the small black screen with two tiles.

I went through ALL display and personalization settings. I created a new theme from the pic I had on desktop. Still no change, but I restarted and Hooray! I had the normal start screen which now comes up when I click Start button or Windows logo button - just like it should. *Biggrin

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions.
I got to thinking yesterday afternoon about how many hours I had spend troubleshooting this issue. And I knew it would probably be resolved if I did a clean install (which is what I did on the laptop and it was fine afterwards. But I refused to do that on my desktop because of the time it would take to reinstall all my programs, configurations, etc.

Well, in this case I had tunnel vision. Because I know I spent more time fixing this problem than I would have spent doing a clean install. I tend to have a little too much perseverance when I'm working on a problem.

Oh well. All is good. Now I can get back to work on normal things that need done. It's nice to be closing the book on this one.
