Windows 10: KB4023834 failed to install

My desktop (x-86 based system) just installed Windows Update, but this one is showing as failed. I found a site (Microsoft Update Catalog) and downloaded the update.

Should I just run it again? I'd appreciate some advice on this as I do not know what to do.

1. Was the Dell computer sold to you as a brand-new, never-been-used-by anyone else computer or as a used or refurbished computer?

2. Where or from whom did you purchase the computer?

3. Was Windows 7 (or possibly Windows 8) installed on the computer when you bought it?

4. Did you format the HDD before you did the "clean install" of Win10?

5. Was Creators Update (Win10 1607) offered & installed via Windows Update or did you install it manually?

6. Has KB4023834 also failed to install?

1: No i did not format the HDD

4: Norton Security Deluxe was installed 4/23/2016 and then Norton Security 11/1/2016

5: Yes Norton Security trials expired before 15 May 2017

6: KB4019472,kb3150513 failed but kb4023834 installed

7: No creators update has never been offered

8: Yes I can enable (turn on) yes periodic scanning

9: Google Chrome is 61.0.3140.1

10: for some reason it wont show which version, but in the control panel it is 26.0.0.131

 

Sometimes you just need to try again. It just succeeded today on mine.

Please note too that in the News section here there's a thread per update, so you can compare notes.
In that thread there are links for manual downloads. Easy if needed.

There are logs you can inspect if the problem persists. However, past history with Win 10 has shown that just occasionally MS has to replace an update.

 

Let us know if you were able to update windows 7 from the Microsoft catalog.
Whenever there is an update failure, post the KB#, the error code, and the troubleshooting steps performed.

 

You refer to updating windows 7. I have windows 10.

 

Please update your computer information as it is still displaying windows 7.
In the left lower corner search type winver
The pop up will display your current windows version and build.
Please post this information into the thread.
When you performed a manual installation from the catalog was there an error code or did it update successfully?

 

For windows updates view the options to uninstall updates.
Enter KB4023834 into the search and see if it can be uninstalled.
If it can be uninstalled that will confirm that it is installed.

 

Mine has done that on a few occasions. I just ask it to try again and all works out fine.

 

I did as you instructed and it shows the update. But I feel real shaky about just assuming this "critical" update has been installed when the update history shows it has failed.

 

Where is it that you click on "try again?" I'm not following something here because another poster said the same thing.
