    KB4073290 released for old Athlon machines running Windows 10


    Microsoft have released KB4073290 on the Microsoft Catalog for older computers with AMD Athlon chip sets that became unbootable after installing the January cumulative update KB4056892 (build 16299.192).

    After installation of KB4073290, the machine will run build 16299.194.

    AMD Processor Issue (after update KB4056892) NOT Resolved

    Hi,

    I had the same problem with a 10 year old Acer Aspire, equipped with an Athlon 5000+. I tried luv2fly_1's workaround with KB4073291 but this was not compatible with my system. I then tried KB4073290 which worked a treat and now KB4056892 has installed successfully
    as well.

    Okay all great except KB4073290 doesn't appear to cover my system:

    Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3800+ 2.40 Ghz

    System type: 32-bit operating system, x64-based processor

    Edition: Windows 10 Home

    Version: 1709

    OS Build: 16299.125

    Tried 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4073290

    Not applicable for this device

    So now what?
