Improvements and fixes

This update includes quality improvements. No new operating system features are being introduced in this update. Key changes include:

Addresses issue with printing XML documents with Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge.

Addresses issue where Internet Explorer stops working when using F12-based developer tools.

Updates legacy Document Mode cell visibility in Internet Explorer.

Addresses issue where Internet Explorer is unresponsive in certain scenarios when a Browser Helper Object is installed.

Addresses issue that causes online video playback to stop responding.

Addresses issue where an AD FS server issue causes the WID AD FS database to become unusable after a restart. This might prevent the AD FS service from starting.

Due to recent work with our antivirus (AV) partners, AV software has now reached a sustained level of broad compatibility with Windows updates. After analyzing the available data, we’re lifting the AV compatibility check for the March 2018 Windows security updates for supported Windows 10 devices through Windows Update. We’ll continue to require that AV software be compatible. Devices with known AV driver compatibility problems will be blocked from updates. We recommend that customers check installed AV software compatibility with their AV provider.

Addresses issue in which WPF applications that are running on touch or stylus-enabled systems may stop working or stop responding after some time without any touch activity.

Security updates to Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Microsoft Windows Search component, Windows Desktop Bridge, Microsoft Graphics component, Windows Kernel, Windows Shell, Windows MSXML, Windows Datacenter Networking, Windows Installer, and Windows Hyper-V.

Note This update isn't available with express installation files for Windows Server 2016.

If you installed earlier updates, only the new fixes in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

Windows Update Improvements
Microsoft has released an update directly to the Windows Update client to improve reliability. Any device running Windows 10 configured to receive updates automatically from Windows Update, including Enterprise and Pro editions, will be offered the latest Windows 10 Feature Update based on device compatibility and Windows Update for Business deferral policy. This does not apply to long-term servicing editions.

Known issues in this update

Microsoft is not currently aware of any issues with this update.

Stop my computer from trying to update

Thank you for the quick response. We can only pause or schedule updates
in Windows 10. Automatic installation of Windows Update ensures your PC is up to date with the latest features and protected from the latest vulnerabilities.

Like what Robert mentioned, error code 0xC1900101 - 0x4000D is due to an incompatible device, drivers, or programs. That being said, we advise installing the update manually but this time in
safe mode. As of March 13, the latest build for
Windows 10 Version 1607 is OS Build 14393.2125 (KB4088787). You can download it manually from the
Microsoft Update Catalog. To find out which
System type you're using, kindly refer to this
page. After downloading the update, boot your device into
safe mode. For the steps on how to start your PC in
safe mode, please follow the steps from this
article. Booting into safe mode will disable startup programs that might be preventing the update from being installed. Once in
safe mode, install KB4088787. Make sure that there are no other devices connected to your laptop when installing the update.
