Support for 1703 ends in October, and support for 1607 ends this month.

The point I was trying to make is that if you're using version 1703 or 1607, you need to download a different update from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

  3. I have a Haswell (i7-4770k) that had microcode v.1E in 1709 and after upgrading to 1803, it has v.22. The other PCs I updated (Lynnfield -- i5 760, Wolfdale -- E8400, and Broadwell (i7-6800k) remained the same.

I beg to differ. I updated from 16299.xxx which was patched to build 17115 and then !7XXX to 17131.1 and when I run that test for specter/meltdown, I get the same result as I did when I ran it in The FCU Build 16299.xxx. MSI is NOT going to update my X58-7522 BIOS so I am as updated on this issue as I ever was.

    Hi,

Not sure what's going on but the original IP install which is now running 17133.1 is not protected against Spectre either.
This ssd sits in the same machine running two upgraded FCU installs that were fully protected but no longer are Spectre protected now.

This is a Kabylake which in fact should be protected but now no longer is.
Anyone else in the same boat ?

    Cheers, *Wink

    Hi,

That's even more weird as the OS should bring Meltdown protection, the KB loading the MCU serves to mitigate Spectre....

The only way to get protection from Meltdown is with a BIOS update, or so I have been told. I have Legacy BIOS and MSI will not update it.

    Hi,

Nope, that used to be so for Spectre. Now that MS has taken over from OEMs etc, MCUs will be loaded at boot by Windows as per KB4090007.
Thing is, that only works for OS version 1709, not 17133. And of course only covers Skylake, Kabylake and Koffeelake cpus so far.

  10. Then please tell me when I was using The FCU Build 16299.XXX I was protected against Spectre and NOT Meltdown???? I am still protected in the same manner and I Do not have any covered CPU's as you can see in my Specs.

    Hi,

No idea. The first thing that was fixed (by MS) was the Meltdown mitigation. Then you either updated your bios/efi when made avaivalble through OEM etc. Or you installed the KB if you were running one of the cpus it patched .
    Other than that ??

What are you using to check against vulnerability ?

    Cheers, *Wink
