One hour 38 minutes and it's at 77%. Laughable is putting it mildly.

It's total downtime though of 30 minutes, not from when you click on the download button. You can still use your computer.

  6. That is a true statement, but has little to do with the update process. The process of an update is not defined by your ability to use your computer or not. Once I click update, if it hasn't started already, that is when the updating process begins. Just because I can work on other things while it is updating, doesn't mean it's not updating. If we were only looking at the time between hitting restart and loading the desktop, then my times would be much, much quicker. In the range of five to eight minutes easily.

My computer slows down and the mouse becomes unresponsive at certain points while installing so it's not 100% usable. When using UUPDump I don't have this problem.

This is RTM if nothing really bad happen. Microsoft is always playing such games. Pretending that "RTM" build is just another build. Look back at "RTM" builds blog posts from previous releases.

  10. I have to re-time it once RTM is official. I will test on physical machine (not VM, which I use now)...fastest I've got so far is from Opening up WU to full reboot and to upgraded desktop was about 35minutes. That is on my old Tractor of a laptop. *Smile

30 minutes is offline time and I have done several tests and that is more or less the time it takes in hard drives:

  12. LOL, offline time is less than 10 minutes for me, on VM or no VM.

HOE LEA MOW LEA - It took my laptop only 12 minutes or so from restart now to being fully installed. This is a major improvement - MS have got this one really nailed down! My flabber is truly ghasted.

I guess that each case is different, that's why they talk about average time, in my case, in traditional hard drives, it takes 20 to 30 minutes that process.
