Windows 10: KB4338819 Update ~ COM Surrogate and DllHost.exe Errors

Tuesday's update downloaded and installed quickly and without error until it made it to the desktop. Following painting the desktop it displayed a screen with "Windows Encountered an Error And Needs To Restart". It did and loaded normally. Update History says it was a Successful Update.

Anyway checking Reliability Monitor since then I'm getting this, a lot:





Most all the COM Surrogate errors involve the DllHost.exe but with varying faulting addresses and times:





I can trigger the errors every time I run the Reliability Monitor. But then they also occur randomly at other times.


Can anyone help me here? Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks ...

I don't know enough about what I'm doing here to have a clue.

COM Surrogate has stopped working???

Interesting.
A COM surrogate thread is created when the dllhosts process does not trust what it is running.
It creates an unattached thread to run it in case if totally craps out so that it does not take out dllhosts with it.
A program itself can create a COM surrogate thread, but most issues are do to flakey code that the dllhosts process does not like.
I would be wary of disabling processes. This error is a sort of "catch all" for untrusted code.
I would look for incompatibilities in apps or drivers first.
