Windows 10: KB5000802 How to Fix This Sad Excuse of a Release?

This install has wrecked my laptop--and consequently my world:


1. My local install of Office 2016 no longer exists. My executables seem to think I am starting from scratch and want ID information that I no longer have. Bad enough for Excel & Word, but I a least have all data for them backed up. Not so for Outlook which I've used for close to 20 years. I do have a receipt from Dell which shows I purchased the suite.

2. Quicken and My Journal were blown away. Again, back-ups are available for data, but gee whiz. Running Journal 7 and it disappeared with only a folder for Version 5 which is from long, long ago. Had to start from scratch installing Quicken.

3. Chrome knocked back to the stone age.

4. Task Bar blown away.

5. And because I'm a team player, I can't print.


Tried to back out 802--which only installed yesterday--but that just brings me back to where I was after first experiencing these changes. Thus, faced with bringing up the damaged programs non-MS again.


What the heck are you doing to address this mess? And what are my concrete options. I need Word, Excel and Outlook for survival.

In post 26 there were steps listed to fix the operating system corruption.
Are you able to follow them?
In post 29 was the suggested dism repair command.

 

Type Cover 2 not working with WIndows 10 (Release)

So, after suggesting checking for firmware updates, it does appear there was a firmware release July 23, 2015 that resolves this issue. The step-by-step directions as well as the firmware release history for the Surface Pro 2 can be found here.
