Windows 10: KB5000808 fails to install error code 0x80073701 Windows 10 Home

Hi...


I have tried everything to fix a problem with windows 10 not installing an update. I do not know what to do next. Please help!


I am running Windows 10 Home. For quite some time now, kb5000808 fails to install. It downloads, to 100%, then after many 20 seconds or so, it says in red text that it failed to install. The error code is 0X80073701.


I ran the Windows update troubleshooter. It found an issue but was unable to fix it. I can not copy and paste this issue it found it would not let me, but it had something to do with "NET HELPMSG 2182 Error" so I went here:

I did *EVERYTHING* on the above web page and nothing helped. So then I tried this:




Try resetting the DLL files associated with the Windows Installer Service:

RESTART WINDOWS INSTALLER SERVICE

1. Click START
2. Type 'cmd' without quotes. Right click the result there should only be one
and select 'Run as Administrator'

** Close out of any open programs before moving to the following steps

3. In command prompt, type 'msiexec /unregister' without quotes and with a space between msiexec and /unregister
4. Press enter
5. Type 'msiexec /regserver' without quotes and with a space between msiexec and /regserver
6. Press enter
7. Type 'net stop msiserver' without quotes and with spaces between net and stop {and} stop and msiserver
8. Press enter
9. Type 'net start msiserver' without quotes and with spaces between net and start {and} stop and msiserver



That did not help.


After searching the Microsoft help forum, I found a link that said if nothing else works down load the "Media Creator Tool 20H2"


I down loaded this tool. It looked like it would re install windows for me. It down loaded windows, then down loaded updates. Then it showed me a menu and the option was set to keep all my files and data. Then it installed. Just about the time it finished, it quit and gave me a message that said it could not install Windows.


Can I use my original Windows 10 Home disk from Microsoft and boot to it and try to fix this? I tried but did not find anything that helped.


I do not know what to do next. Any help appreciated.

Updating Fails with Error 0x80073701

Hi, there appear to be errors in your log. What was the final statement on the screen?

Looks like the two key things are the error number 0x80073701
and ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING

Have you also checked absolute basics:
- check your disk (e.g. HDTune v2.55 free Health and Error Scan tabs
- if ok, run
chkdsk c: /scan
from an admin command or Powershell prompt

Post the summary results of those.

If all else fails, resort to an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data and most settings. Tutorial available.

Updating Fails with Error 0x80073701

Hi all. Hopefully everyone is safe and well.

I have Windows 10 version 1909 OS build 18363.720 and am experiencing a problem with Windows Update. The problem is that the 2020-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems KB4541335 fails to install with error 0x80073701.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far to fix this issue with no success.
Downloaded the KB4541335 file directly from Microsoft and tried manually installing it.
Ran Windows Update Troubleshooter.
Reset Windows Update.
Ran sfc /scannow (no errors were found).
