Windows 10: KB5023696 Fails to install - Error Code: 0x800f0922

Hello,I have a problem with KB5023696 installation. It always fails and the changes have been undone. Windows Update service is trying to install it, then comes the message "We are not able to install the update, undoing changes". I have tried many "solutions" for that check the Internet connection, turn the Firewall off, ..., but without success.My computer is Toshiba Satellite P50 wihout TPM chip onboard.

KB5023696 Fails to install - Error Code: 0x800f0922

I am trying to install a Security Update for Windows 10 Pro. (KB5023696). I am doing so from the Admin account.

When I look at my Update history, I see the following entries:



Feature update to Windows 10, version 22H2

Failed to install on ‎3/‎28/‎2023 - 0x800f0922



Security Update for Windows (KB5023696)

Failed to install on 3/28/2023 - 0x800f0922



When look at my Installed Updates under: Settings > Programs and Features > Installed Updates,

It shows that "Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB5023696)" installed 3/28/2023



When I go to Settings > Update & Security in indicates:

"Restart Required ... Your device is missing important security and quality fixes. ... 2023-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5023696)"



I have attempted the restart multiple times. When it is restarting, it generally gets to about 97% or 98% complete before it indicates that "We couldn't complete the updates... Undoing Changes..."



Current OS/System info:

Edition: Windows 10 Pro

Version: 21H2

Installed on: 5/21/2021

OS Build: 19044.2251

Experience: Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4190.0

I have done web searches as well as searches in the Microsoft Tech Forums for suggestions/solutions to this "0x800f0922" issue.

I have run the DISM and sfc/scannow commands with no change in behavior.

Can anyone provide help or a solution/work-around to correct this issue?

Apologies for the delay in reply. Life got pretty hectic for a bit.

Thanks for your help. I didn't have to go to the full extent of rebuilding the WMI repository (Step 3 in the link you provided). After I did steps 1 (Repair the WMI Repository) and Step 2 (Reset the WMI repository), the failed update ("KB5023696") was able to successfully install.

I truly appreciate you help and pointing me quickly to a solution that was relatively easy to perform. The most "complicated" part was getting the CMD prompt to open as the "Trusted Installer" system acct.
