KB5034441 update problem, error (0x80070643).

The update KB5034441 failed with a fatal error when staging the WIM. This is due to a lack of free space in the WinRE partition.

Resizing the Recovery partition to 750 MB resolves the issue. That applies if you use the Windows-default winre.wim.

For OEM-supplied winre.wim (which has additional drivers and packages), ensure the Recovery partition's size is atleast 100 MB more than the size of the custom wim.

Note: The above MS article works only if your Recovery partition is situated next to (i.e., right side) the OS partition. You can check the disk layout by opening Disk Management.



(Based on what I've noticed on the forums, many users have decided to skip/hide the KB5034441 update and wait and see if Microsoft releases a fix.)

 

Security Update KB5034441 for Windows 10 Ver. 22H2 will not install.

I have three Windows 10 (64-bit) systems. Of the three one appears to have installed this update (subsequent checks through Windows Update for completed updates lists KB5034441 as done), one that appears to have downloaded the update but returns error 0x80070643 (as others have described), and the third got to 74% complete then for the next 7 hours did nothing!

The two systems with problems installing the update:

* The one that returns error 0x80070643 -- I've attempted to restart (the other two updates completed successfully with the restart as expected) SEVERAL times and each time Windows Update indicates that the update has been successfully downloaded (no re-download required), but has returned the same error on each occasion (think I've tried half a dozen times now).

* System that spent time at 74% complete -- I finally restarted that system this morning; it completed the two other updates successfully; after the reboot completed I retried. It too indicates that the update file is there, but returns the same error 0x80070643.

So, I went to the Microsoft Catalog to see If I could download the update and then apply locally. The update DOESN'T exist in the catalog. I searched for KB5034441, nothing. I searched all of the Windows 10 updates--they're listed in reverse numerical order thank goodness as the number of updates listed for the various instances of Windows 10 is extremely large: not there either.

Males you wonder if Microsoft has realized there is a rather large issue with this update and will be re-issuing (perhaps with a different KB number for those systems that "appear" to have successfully installed the now missing KB5034441.

P.S.: I've tried the Troubleshooting tool for Windows Update previously; on other updates; and it did nothing. I've run SFC and DISM recently and these both report no issues with system files. So, I don't think I'll be wasting time on the troubleshooter this time, especially since others here have said they've already tried ti and it didn't help at all.

 

0x80070643 (KB5034441) and 0x80073701 (KB5034122) - failure to update

Since today I been dealing with two pesky updates refusing to download, their respective names + error names are: 0x80070643 (KB5034441) and 0x80073701 (KB5034122)

KB5034441 seems to be the most brought to attention recently but it seems only me and a few select others suffer from the dual 0x80070643 and 0x80073701 issue at the same time.

In my history of windows updates I've never had these issues and many of my friends are mainly reporting problems with 0x80070643.
