    Keep getting 0x80070091 when carrying out restore


    So I recently accidentally added my companies VPN service and due to there restrictions I can just uninstall , they are not responding to requests for help so im trying to restore but I keep getting the above error , ive tried scf , renaming WindowsApps and a few other things , is there anything else I can try?

    Error code 0x80070091 normally indicates that the process to do system restore has failed or was not completed. Can you post back the steps you have performed to fix this error? Prior to this issue, were there any changes made in your computer? Was
    there a recent update installed?

    Hi,

    Microsoft has acknowledged this issue and will roll out a hotfix as soon as possible.

    At the same time, it has offered a temporary workaround that advanced users can use to fix error
    0x80070091.

    To fix System Restore error 0x80070091, follow the steps below:

    • Boot into Safe Mode.
    • Right-click on Start and click on Command Prompt (admin).
    • Type the commands below one by one:
      • cd C:\Program Files
      • takeown /f WindowsApps /r /d Y
      • icacls WindowsApps /grant “%USERDOMAIN%\%USERNAME%”Keep getting 0x80070091 when carrying out restore :(F) /t
      • attrib WindowsApps -h
      • rename WindowsApps WindowsApps.old

    • Reboot.

    • Run System Restore.

    One of our laptops have this issue ever since the Anniversary update. Haven't tried yet on the new Creators update. Have you tried using it on the new update?

    The best way to get attention is by posting this in the
    Feedback hub    .

    There's a long thread about it on another forum with some solutions working for some people (but a lot of them are technical). If you are comfortable with the steps, might be worth taking a shot
