  1. Keeping files on PC that are not in Onedrive

When I setup my new PC, I started saving files to Onedrive. I am new to this application. When the files and photos starting uploading to Onedrive, it quickly ran out of space and exceeded the 5GB free limit. Photos do not need to be stored in the cloud since I have other backups of them. I would just like Onedrive to store certain files and stay under the 5GB limit. How do I store the photos on my PC and prevent them from uploading to Onedrive?Second question - I started deleting the photos from Onedrive so I can continue to sync files that I am editing. Now I can't see the photos on

  2. Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

  3. Why were SMART Files Removed from OneDrive in Windows 10?

    Technical Level : Basic

    Summary

This article details why SMART files, also known as placeholder files, were removed from OneDrive in Windows 10.

    Details

OneDrive has gone through many changes in Windows 10, most notably the removal of SMART files (placeholder files) from OneDrive. They still exist in Windows 8.1, however they were removed, hopefully temporarily, from OneDrive in Windows 10 because of the
fragmented sync engines between OneDrive on Windows 7/Mac, OneDrive on Windows 8.1, and OneDrive for Business. The following article details what changes the OneDrive team made and why they made them:

    Taking the Next Step in
    OneDrive

From a development point of view, it's a much better approach to consolidate their codebase, but from a user point of view, it's very frustrating.

Like many of us, if you want that feature back, please vote for it here on the OneDrive UserVoice page:

OneDrive keeps crashing in Windows 10

    Hi,

Quick update. This fixed it for me:

I suggest you to try resetting OneDrive and check if it helps you in resolving the issue. To do so refer the steps below:

Be aware that resetting OneDrive re-syncs all your OneDrive files, which could take some time depending on how many files you’re syncing.

    • Press the Windows key + R to open the Run
      Window
      .
    • In the Run Window enter the following:
      %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
    • Click OK. The OneDrive system tray icon on the desktop should disappear and re-appear after a minute or two.
    • If the OneDrive system tray icon does not re-appear after a few minutes, do the following. In the Run Window Enter: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe
