  1. Keeping old Hard Drive for storage after migrating Windows 10 System image to a new SSD?

I have recently migrated my Windows 10 system image from an older HDD to a new SSD. While the old drive is disconnected, I am able to boot up Windows just fine on the new SSD, however, I wish to continue using the old drive as storage so I want to reconnect it and format the drive and wipe it clean. When I reconnect the old drive though, it becomes the boot drive once again and forces the SSD to be offline. Changing boot order in the BIOS doesn't solve the issue and I'm unable to format the old drive since it is recognized as the system disk. How do I make the new SSD continue to be the boot d

    :)

  2. migrating a windows 10 system to a new ssd

Bought a new SSD for a laptop with windows 10 1709. What is the best way to copy everything/migrate/clone the old hard drive (661 gb free of 697 gb) to the new 240 gb ssd?

  3. What is Storage Sense? And how would it handle SSDs and/or Hard Drives?

There is a new Windows 10 feature that was added in the Creator's Update. It's called
Storage Sense. It is accessed by going to the Settings UWP app, under the System menu, and in the Storage list item.

I couldn't find any more information about Storage Sense, other than it helps with the data stored on your primary and secondary drives, I think?

So I have a few questions:

    • What is Storage Sense and what does it really do? Give an explanation as detailed as possible.
    • How would it work on SSDs?
    • How would it work on Hard Drives / Disc Platter Storage Medias?
    • Is it self-aware the user is on SSDs or on Hard Drives?

    Thanks.

hard drive 'not migrated' as external storage

I recently upgraded the hard drive in my Sony Vaio, and bought a plug-n-play case for the old one to use as a standard external hard drive. When I plug it into the USB port, it comes to life (disc spinning, etc.) but never shows up in windows file explorer.
When I do a little digging, it's listed in the device manager as a usb storage device but says 'device not migrated'.

I've gone through the 2 standard responses I've found posted here about uninstalling the device and checking for hardware changes, as well as running the device troubleshooter. I need to know if it's something with the old hard drive causing problems, or
something with Windows 10. There's no data on the drive to be concerned with, so if it's just about formatting that's no problem- but I can't format if it won't recognize the drive in the first place!! help...?
