Windows 10: Kensington VeriMark not working on Windows 10 desktop

I purchased VeriMark fingerprint reader to make it easier and more secure for me to sign in to my computer. I have O&O Shut up Windows 10 installed on both my desktop and my laptop. The installation process on the laptop went perfectly, just had to install the driver, update the laptop to the latest windows update and restart the computer. The laptop then recognised and accepted the fingerprint reader through the Windows hello setup. The only issue is that the device is being recognised on my desktop after the driver was installed, but the device will not start at all. I had also updated my desktop to the latest update before rebooting the machine.


I then opened Device Managers and looked at the properties of the fingerprint reader, where I saw that the only status of the device was: "This device cannot start. Code 10". The driver that I installed on my laptop and the desktop is the latest one that is available on Kensington's website. Does this mean I have to try uninstalling and reinstalling everything under the USB section USB Host Controller, USB Root Hub, etc? Any kind of solution would be very much appreciated.

Uninstall your VeriMark fingerprint reader from Device manager, delete its driver.

Download driver from Kensington official website.

Yep, this is a compatibility issue. I'm afraid there is nothing that can really be done to guarantee compatibility with Windows 10. You can always try reinstalling using compatibility mode.

I purchased Kensington VeriMark fingerprint reader few day back for adding convince to sign in Windows and other website that use U2F. It first worked after the installation without reboot. Windows Hello can idenitify the device and guide me though the registering process. The login is blazing fast. However, after a reboot of the machine for changing the GPU, Windows Hello shutoff.

I tried to re-plug the reader, reinstall the device, connect it directly to the computer. All of this above don't work. In Setting -> Account -> Sign-in option -> Windows Hello show a sentence: "Windows Hello isn't available on this device." with a link that doesn't help at all.

I used W10Privacy and DoNotSpy10 to tweak the system so it won't show advertisement and collect excessive info for MS. I'm sure that I uncheck the biometric option.

Note: Device Manager can identify the reader and place it correctly under "Biometric devices" category.

What am I possible be missing? I have to return it if it can't get the job done.

EDIT: After a unsuccessful system restore, it seems Windows Hello shows up again. However, the root cause is not clear yet.
