    Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection was turned on and suddenly it is turned off


    Hello everyone. Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection was enabled on my machine and it stayed on forever, including past the latest Windows Update phase, but now I took a quick look and it is turned off. I checked and it is enabled on the Group Policy editor. Everything is proper and working well, there were no changes or anything like that in either software or hardware. I looked and I can't find anything like this.

    Unable to turn on kernel mode hardware enforced stack protection.

    I turned off the kernel mode hardware enforced stack protection for installing gameloop after uninstalling gameloop I am unable to find that protection option to turn on.

    Hi, Tommy. Thanks for the info. You're right - I can't turn on stack protection, and I want to do so (assuming it's supposed to be possible).

    Before I post to Microsoft Learn, I hope that someone can please clarify some of the "Kernel-Mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection" functionality. For example, is it supposed to work in Windows 11 23H2, or has it been replaced? The reason I ask is that when I click the "Learn more" link under "Kernel-Mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection" in Windows Security/Device Security/Core Isolation, it opens Core isolation - Microsoft Support, which references (among other things) "Memory access protection" (which it says is also known as "Kernel DMA protection"), but not anything about stack protection. Did memory access protection (aka kernel DMA protection) replace stack protection, or are those different sets of functionality?

    Cannot enable Kernel-Mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection

    I tried this and turned off memory integrity and now I cannot get it back on. After I turned if off and restarted I tried to turn it on and click on review incompatible drivers but there were none listed. Now I can't turn on memory integrity or kernel mode hardware enforced stack protection.
