All mice and keyboard stop working mid-use

    Hi LyanPorto,

Thank you for posting your concern on Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that it can get difficult if the devices are not working as expected. I see that you have tried few steps that might help us. However, we can go ahead and try few steps to see if we can resolve this issue.

    1. What is the version of Windows 10 you are using? You can refer this article to

Check for operating system information in Windows 10.

    2. Have you installed all the pending updates and driver updates on your system?
    3. Were there any changes made to the operating system recently?
    4. What is the make and model of the computer?
    5. What is the BIOS version installed on your system?

I suggest you to follow the below steps, and check if that helps.

Steps: Make sure Windows is up to date.

I suggest you to follow the article for
    Update Windows 10
, and see if it helps.

To check for updates now, select the Startbutton, and then go to
    Settings>Update & security>Windows Update, and select
    Check for updates.

I also suggest you to update the latest Chipset drivers from the manufacturer website, and check if that helps.

    We await your response.

    Regards,

  3. No USB mice or keyboards working

I have an issue with USB mice and keyboards connecting to my new Lenovo P51, running Windows 10

The issue started when my USB keyboard (Microsoft Sculpt) started perpetually pressing a 'p' key. This has happened before, but usually stops quickly. To identify the fault, I unplugged the USB receiver from docking station base USB port where it was connected.

Following this, NO USB mice or keyboards will work!

    1. All devices show up as 'Other devices' in Device Management. And when you try and update the driver, I get told that Windows could not find the driver for the device.

    2. If you attempt to select the driver from the list, no 2.4Ghz drivers are shown as available.

    3. I've used a commercial driver utility to do an automatic update (Driver Easy)

    4. I've uninstalled USB controllers, rebooted, and let Windows install them

    5. I've done numerous hard reboots, including complete power down with battery out

    6. I've manually replaced several usb-related INF files in the c:\windowss\inf folder as well (including usb.inf)

However...still no go. All keyboards or mice just end up in 'other devices' and won't work. I've run out of ideas short of a Windows reinstall. Or am I missing something? One other thing I considered was a USB power issue...but my portable usb hdd still
    works (with lights on).

    comments appreciated.

  4. Keyboard and mice stopped working after the recent update

Windows update caused my keyboard to stop working

The keyboard failure probably happened coincidentally with the update rather than being caused by it. You can find out like so:

    • Turn the machine on.
    • Wait until the spinning circle appears, then press the power button for 10 seconds to turn the laptop off.
    • Repeat the above steps three times. This will get you into Repair Mode.
    • Go to advanced options, then select the Command Prompt.
    • Check each and every keyboard key.
I think you will find that the problem keys still do not work, even though the current mode is not affected by the recent update. You probably have to replace the keyboard.
