Windows 10: Keyboard Center software throws extraction error

To run the installer in compatibility mode, first, right-click the installer and select Properties, select Compatibility tab, and choose the XP compatibility mode.

If the OS is 64-bit, I would run the 64-bit installer first to see if that will take. If no joy, then settle on the 32-bit installer.

If OS is 32-bit, one can only try and run the 32-bit installer.

 

I downloaded MouseKeyboardCenter_32bit_ENG_3.2.116.exe and ran it. I get an the following error during extraction. I also tried the 32-bit version.

Right click it and select Extract all, if it throws an error, use another browser or reset the cache.

If you haven't already, it might be worth checking if your Microsoft mouse is actually compatible with Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center. Yeah, I know how it sounds but when browsing various articles trying to solve my issue I learnt that some Microsoft
hardware is not supported (which is obviously a source of endless joy to the lucky owners of such hardware).

Do you mean you also tried the 64-bit?

I'm guessing it's an XP-era program and installer (version 6)? Perhaps run it in compatibility mode?

 

Yes, I tried both 64 and 32 bit exe's. Do you have a recommendation?

 

The "requires elevation" part of the message suggests a permissions issue and running as administrator but there are times when one has to activate the actual hidden Administrator to do things. I think I recall there's a tutorial here about how to do that. A note: WinXP was available as 64-bit but only the Pro version.
