Windows 10: Keyboard gets switched inadvertently

Every so often, I get strange foreign characters on the screen when I type. I traced it to a keyboard shortcut that switches to foreign keyboards with a hotkey combination. I see no way to disable this. Is there a way to keep it on the US keyboard, even when I accidentally hit a hotkey?

If none of the suggestions work make sure in the bottom right of your taskbar that you are not seeing anything other than ENG.

Wondering if you inadvertently switched keyboard languages.

 

How to prevent Windows from switching keyboards

Once you have it back working the way you need you can disable the keyboard shortcuts that have changed layouts inadvertently -

Settings,
Devices,
Typing,
Advanced keyboard settings,
Input language hot keys,
Advanced key settings tab,
Change key sequence,
Set Switch input language to Not assigned,
Set Switch keyboard language to Not assigned,
OK,
OK.

Keyboard stops working after switching users...

Hi,

I have a very annoying issue that hast started to happen a few days ago. Basically when I switch users keyboard stops working.

Steps:

• Start PC
• Log in as user A - Keyboard works fine
• Switch User B - login screen is displayed and keypboard works to enter password
• User B descktop is displayed
  • Keyboard does not work
  • Mouse works
  • Strange behaviour - the system seems to act like the Enter key is stuck down (which it isn't). If I open word to a new document (using mouse) it just inserts new lines into the document... like I am holding the enter key down

I've tried a different keyboard and still the same issue.

Any ideas?
