Windows 10: Keyboard holding presses longer than it should

Whenever I hold down a key and then release it, the input will continue to press well after I release it. For instance, if I hold down the backspace key to delete a section of text after I release it will continue deleting several more characters. When I am playing a game and using the keyboard to move, the character will continue running forward for a while after I let go, and won't detect new inputs until it stops moving forward, at which point all of the key presses I made while it was stuck come out. Strangely, this issue is not very consistent, and sometimes, the keyboard decides to funct

USB keyboard disconnects when holding any button down

I suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: I suggest you to try the following steps and check if it helps:

• The USB connection may be loose. Try unplugging the keyboard, and then plugging it back in.
• Plug the keyboard into a different USB port.
• If your keyboard is plugged into a USB hub or USB switch box, try removing it and plugging the keyboard into the computer.
• Unplug other USB devices that are not in use.
• Try the keyboard on another computer to verify it is working correctly

Method 2: Also I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the usb keyboard drivers as below and check if it helps.

• Press Windows+X and go to device manager.
• Then expand keyboards and right click on the driver.
• Then click on uninstall and restart the computer.
• It will be reinstalled automatically and check if it helps.

Cant press and hold keys

• Are you using a Desktop Computer or a Laptop?
• Since when are you facing this issue?
• Have you made any changes to the system prior to this issue?
• Is this issue specific to any functionalities?
• Have you updated the latest keyboard driver?

I suggest you to try the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: Update Keyboard driver.

Follow the steps to update the Keyboard drivers:

1. Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.

2. Expand the Keyboard.

3. Right-click on the Keyboard driver and click on Update driver software.

4. Restart the computer and check.

Method 2: Try Uninstalling and then reinstalling the keyboard drivers.


Follow the steps below:

1. Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.

2. Expand the Keyboard.

3. Right-click the keyboard driver and click
Uninstall.

4. Restart the computer, let Windows detect the driver and install by itself.

Method 3:

If the issue still persists, I suggest you to install the latest keyboard driver in a compatibility mode and check if it works.Follow the steps below:

a. Download the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website.

b. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘properties’.

c. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’
and select Windows 8/8.1 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation.

Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Touch keyboard press and hold for accented letters - missing accents

In Windows 10 with a English UK locale selected (although the issue applies it to various other layouts) I select the show touch keyboard button from context-clicking on the task bar. When the touch keyboard shows I can enter accented letters by pressing
and hold a key. For example press and hold n to get the ability to enter ñ.

However, press and hold s gives š but no ŝ (which is a shame - I was rather hoping for ŝ). The c key has the inverse problem - there is ĉ, but č is missing. And u misses ŭ and other accents. And so forth - the problem is the choice of accented letters.
Of course not all of Unicode and all languages can be supported by the generic press and hold popups, but trying to be objective, I'd suggest (based on the CEN Workshop Agreement CWA 13873:2000) the press and holds give access to the following letters: ß áâãäåæçèéêëìíîïðñòóôõöøùúûüýþÿāăąćĉċčďđēėęěĝğġģĥħĩīįıijĵķĸĺļľŀłńņňʼnŋōőœŕŗřśŝşšșţťŧțũūŭůűųŵŷźżž

Would it be possible to raise a bug or an improvement request to Microsoft for this?
