Windows 10: Keyboard keys only stop working after a while, KVM switch and USB-C hub

So my recent setup involves a dual monitor and computer KVM switch so I can switch between my home computer and my work laptop. On the laptop side which is the problematic one, I will have everything working for like 15 min until all of a sudden my keyboard keys won't work. I'm talking about letters, capslock, tab, num lock, escape, and almost everything except my volume scroll wheel. This is all from my external keyboard. The keyboard on the laptop itself works.Unplugging the keyboard and plugging it back in seems to work only for a while until it stops responding again.My setup: KVM switch c

KVM switch USB not reinitializing

I've had the TK-409K KVM switch from Trendnet now for about a year and I don't have to switch between computers very often so I'm not sure when the problem started. I have a Window 10 desktop and a mac laptop hooked into the ports 1 and 2 of the KVM box.
If the switch is set to the Windows computer when the computer boots, the mouse and keyboard and monitor work with no problem. However, if I switch to the mac and then back to the Windows computer, the monitor works but not the mouse and keyboard. I have to
reboot Windows to get the mouse and keyboard to work again. When I switch to the Windows computer, the light on the KVM box never stop blinking. Does anyone have any suggestions?

 

Duel Monitor KVM Switch - Keyboard not being recognized on one of the computers

I have a dual monitor KVM switch (PWAY HDMI 2.0 KVM Switch 2 port) that I use to switch between work and my personal computer; both are running Windows 10. I upgraded my keyboard recently from a razor gaming keyboard to the new Steelseries APEX PRO keyboard which utilizes a 3.0 USB vs the Razor gaming keyboard which utilized a 2.0 USB. I upgraded the keyboard as my old Razor keyboard started to have issues with keys sticking/other issues. After plugging in the Steelseries keyboard to the KVM, the keyboard works great on my work computer where I am able to switch back and forth without losing function of the keyboard. However when I switch to my personal computer I loose function of the new keyboard through the KVM switch, the mouse works fine. To get the keyboard to work on my personal computer I have to either plug the keyboard directly into the tower or restart the computer with the KVM selected on the personal computer. However even with the restart, the keyboard works for about a minute then I lose function of the keyboard. Only plugging directly into the tower seems to allow for full use of the keyboard.

I have tried the following:

• Re-arranging the cables leading to the KVM switch
  
• updating all drivers for the keyboard
  
• ensure windows is up to date with all updates.
  
• plugging the KVM input into the 3.0 slot on my tower vs the 2.0 slot on my tower.
  

Any help you can provide is appreciated. Should I just buy an older 2.0 keyboard again?

 

Mouse intermittently freezes when connecting via KVM or USB Hub

Hi All,

I am having an issue with my mouse on Windows 10. I have a razor Death Addor and the Black Widow keyboard.

WFH now I bought a KVM to switch between my work laptop and Gaming PC. Only as soon as the mouse is connected to a USB hub or KVM I intermittently have it lock and freeze every couple of moments. I am wondering if it is hardware related. I have tried multiple KVM's (One broke so had to send it back) the issue occurred on both. I am now using a cool (but cheap) powered usb hub / switch. The same issue occurs on it.

I have tried the following:

- USB Selective Suspend setting is Disabled.

- Updated Mouse Drivers.

- Deleted mouse drivers.

- Disabled all the Mice drivers except the death adder.

- Tested an alternative mouse.

- Disabled all the USB hubs in device manager from being able to turn them off to save power.

- Checked for system updates.

- Reformatted windows (twice)

- Tested a USB 2.0 and USB 3 KVM / Switch hub.

- Tested multiple USB ports (Some ports feel like it happens less).

- Tested Hub on another computer (Instead of my gaming computer) and it works fine.

- Mouse works completely fine when connected straight to the computer.

- Swapped the ports on the switch.

I also do not have any mousing or keyboard issues on the work laptop. The keyboard has had trouble at times as well but its been such a small blip compared to the mouse that it almost is not worth mentioning.

I don't really want to go back to unplugging the mouse and moving it to another computer each time I swap (First world problems) but this issue is annoying. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix the issue?
