Windows 10: Keyboard language acting crazy

This issue I had a couple of times on differents pc, and I saw with a quick google search that I'm far from the only one.
The problem is as follow : Language keyboards keep acting up.
Let me explain myself.

There are 2 main issues I have.
The first one is the keyboard changes language on its own (that is it switches from BEFR to ENUS), depending on what I am playing, what program I'm using etc. I don't know what triggers windows to think that they know what keyboard is best suited for me, but I would like help on how to deactivate this feature, if it's even possible.

The second issue is that it's actually installing and creating more keyboards without me asking for anything.
So for example, I have a BEFR language pack installed as my default, display and ONLY language. In this language pack I have 2 keyboards set up, one BEFR, and one ENUS. I switch from one to the other with the usual win + spacebar just fine.
BUT, sometimes, and just 'sometimes', windows decides to install 2 more keyboards, in my case one FRA and one US.

The plot thinkens, as those 2 new keyboards are nowhere to be found in the language section of the windows parameters, and so cannot be uninstalled unless with ludicrous amount of hassle.

Is there any kind of way to tell Windows to stop acting on its own regarding keyboards ? Dynamically switching from qwerty to azerty based on what programs I use is just plain stupid. For example, I play in AZERTY on a US localised game, so I rebind the controls. Then one day Windows decides to set my keyboard in QWERTY. Great, I re re bind my settings, knowing full well that I'll have to do it again once windows starts acting up again AND that I'm now typing in QWERTY in chat.
This is simply put a mess, and this has happened to me multiple times, with differents pc, and hasn't once been solved permanently.


I love windows, I really do. I'm their biggest advocate, even had windows phones for more than 10years, but this is getting on my nerves faster and faster, and NEEDS to be solved. It's a miracle I don't have to use a computer at work, otherwise myoffice wouldn't have any windows left from all the keyboards that would come through. Please help me.

The extra keyboard layout keep adding to my language bar (with Pics)

Hi Panupong,

The updated Windows 10 may have detected your language, the reason why it automatically gave you the other Thai US keyboard. To correct this issue, we suggest that you follow these steps:

• Click on the Start Menu, type in region and language settings and select it.
• Under Languages, select Thai Kedmanee keyboard and click Remove.
• Lastly, add it back by clicking Add a language.

After these steps, your keyboard layout will permanently stay with Thai Kedmanee keyboard.

Language/Keyboard default

Hi Sandra,

You can try these steps to set up your preferred defaults:

• Go to Settings and click Time & Language.
• Click Region & Language.
• Click on your default system language then, click Options.
• Click Add a keyboard then choose your preferred keyboard language.
• Remove the other keyboard language by choosing it then click Remove.

Follow the steps below to change on-screen keyboard language.

How to add a keyboard layout in Windows 10.

• Click Start Menu. It's the Windows icon in the bottom left corner.
• Click Settings.
• Click Time & language.
• Click Region & language.
• Click the language you wish to add a keyboard layout to.
• Click Options.
• Click Add a keyboard.
• Click the keyboard you want to add.

How to change the keyboard layout in Windows 10.

• Press and hold the Windows key
• Press spacebar.
