Windows 10: Keyboard malfunctioning, no response while playing games on PC

Some of the keys in my keyboard does not respond immediately after I press when playing some of the video games. I’m using a Microsoft Surface Pro 9, and the problem occured recently. For example, sometimes I could not press the “d” and the “s” keys, and if I want those keys to respond, I had to press on the “a” or the “w” key first. This only occur during gaming time, and does not appear in normal typing. I experienced the exact problem with my old laptop that runs Windows OS. The problem does not stop even when I use a separate keyboard from outside.

• Have you tried using other browsers like Edge?
• What error message are you getting?
• Can you provide more details on the troubleshooting steps that you have tried so far?
• Are you experiencing that same thing using other PCs?

Keyboard starts malfunctioning while playing games.

I had this problem a while back and it recently resurfaced a couple of days ago. Basically, what happens is that whenever I am using my keyboard to complete non-gaming related tasks on my ASUS TUF Gaming Laptop, it works perfectly and there are no problems. Whenever I boot up any kind of game that requires a keyboard, it'll work properly for the first 5 minutes, and then it'll malfunction. This will ONLY happen when I am playing games. After a while of closing the game, the keyboard will return to its normal state.

The malfunctioning is in the same way every time where some of my keys seem to be remapped to other keys. For example, if I press the backspace button, a string similar to "dddddddddddddddddddddddd" will appear. If I press the "s" key, a string similar to "ttttttttttttttttttttttt" will appear. If I press the "x" key, a string similar to "++++" will appear. At the same time, whole sections of my keyboard will stop working. The whole right side of my keyboard including the numpad will be nonfunctional (by right side I mean from the j key onwards to the right).

I have tried to fix this issue by uninstalling my keyboard drivers and rebooting my computer to get the default installs. I have tried to set my BIOS back to default settings on the startup screen. I have tried holding the power button for 60 seconds, which was a recommendation from ASUS. I have tried updating everything on my computer as well as scanning it for potential viruses. At this point, I feel like I have tried everything short of returning my computer to factory default. Seeing that the keyboard returns to a normal state, I am wondering if the keyboard is having trouble processing the number of commands that I am inputting with games like Apex Legends and Overwatch.

I would greatly appreciate suggestions on what I should try next. I would really rather not reset my computer and have to go through backing up everything I have if I can help it. Thank you!

Step 1:

Go to the Search box next to Windows Icon & type Troubleshoot.

Step 2:

Under Find and Fix other problems select Keyboard

Step 3:

Then click on Run the Troubleshooter

Step 4:

Restart the PC
