Windows 10: Keyboard not working in certain situations

As the title states I've had issues with my keyboard not registering in lock screen to prompt me to put in my password and even at search. After I looked up this problem I discovered that some other users had similar experiences back in 2015 but no solution came from that post. The thing is that the keyboard works on my lock screen but only for the Control-Alt-Delete shortcut.

I've already tried:

• restarting my pc
• uninstalling and reinstalling the device
  
• plugging into another usb port
• updating drivers

and still no solution.

Follow these steps to launch the On-screen keyboard:

  Press “Windows key + R” to get the run window.

  Type “osk” and hit enter to launch the On-screen keyboard and check if this helps.
  

Also suggest you to install any pending Windows updates on the pc to check if that helps.
Updates are additions to software that can help prevent or fix problems, improve how your computer works, or enhance your computing experience.

Further, you may also boot the computer in a clean boot state and check if the issue persists. When you start Microsoft Windows, typically there are several programs that start automatically and run in the background that may interfere with the system.
These programs may include antivirus and system utility programs. When you perform a clean startup procedure, you prevent these programs from starting automatically.

Follow the steps below to open On-screen Keyboard.

  Windows + Q, type OSK (on-screen keyboard)

  And check if it works
  

Step 2: Run Hardware and device Troubleshooter.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your devices. Refer these steps:

Keyboard Not working in Windows 10

We would suggest you to update your keyboard driver. To update your keyboard driver, follow the steps below:

• Click the Start button, type "device manager" in the search box, and then select Device Manager.
• In the list of hardware categories, look for Keyboards and then double-click it.
• Click on the Keyboard tab and choose Update Driver, and then follow the instructions.
