Windows 10: Keyboard operating in Shortcut mode since Windows update

Hi all,


So this has been a bit of an ongoing saga and it's driving me mad. A while ago I sent my Dell 2-in-1 touch screen laptop to Currys PC world for a screen replacement after I managed to crack it. When it came back I noticed that the keyboard wasn't functioning properly. Now all the keys work and the computer registers that they are being hit, but some of the keys only perform shortcut functions, for example when I hit the "L" key, it doesn't type an "L", it locks the computer. "Q" does the quick search etc.


I ran a few tests and discovered that it was likely to be a software issue because the same thing happened when I used the onscreen keyboard and plugged in two other external keyboards, so that ruled out it being a hardware issue. I thought it was something that the "Team don't seem toKnowhow" services had caused so I took it back. They had it for 4 months and couldn't fix it their solution was to take the whole computer apart and try and order a whole new keyboard even though they also identified it as a software issue, and told me after 3 months that the part they were waiting for was no longer made.


Anyway, I've finally got my laptop back and I've been doing some research and discovered that the computer performed an automatic update for Windows 1903I think version on the night before I took the laptop in for the screen replacement. Having googled that update it says that the shortcut feature was updated and some of the shortcut functions were changed.


I have now completely reset the computer and updated all the software and I'm still having the same issue. I'm completely guessing that that software update is the cause of the issue but its seems very coincidental that that update happened around the time the issue started.


Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this as I'm currently having to type this and my master's coursework on a battered old desktop with only windows 07 and it's driving me mad!

Windows 10 commands/shortcuts/env. var.

Keyboard shortcuts to open programs:

Create a shortcut on the desktop to whatever program you want. Right click -> Properties and fill in the field there. Sadly the shortcut needs to remain on the desktop, but you can hide it.

Fun fact: If you had keyboard shortcuts for programs pinned to your Windows 7 start menu, those shortcuts still work when you update to Windows 10.

I have a list of win10 keyboard shortcuts but some do not do as suggested. For example : F2 doesn't allow me to change the name of the item - but F4 does. I got the list from Windows 10 website ; https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/12445
