  2. Keyboard Stuck in Shortcut Mode?

In my solution list I had tried the on screen keyboard, it did not work. Therefore your other offered solution, that it may be a keyboard short, doesn't work either. That solution does not explain why the on screen keyboard had the same behavior or why, when I switched keyboards, the new keyboard also behaved like it was in shortcut mode.

Sticky keys is off. Filter keys is off. All drivers are up to date. Windows OS is up to date. What would make a physical keyboard AND the on screen keyboard act as if they were in shortcut mode??

  3. Keyboard Stuck in Shortcut Mode?

I believe the computer is stuck in shortcut mode, which is a mode I recently learned about in resolving this issue. Typing on the keyboard runs shortcuts instead of typing, this happens with the on-screen keyboard as well. Additionally, when I move the mouse across the screen the start menu opens (an issue I saw right before posting this question).

Here's what I have tried with the keyboard:

    1. Restarted computer. I'm able to quickly type to get in to the user profile before the setting turns back on randomly.

    2. Shut down the computer, waited, turned on. Same as above.

    3. Ran troubleshooter for keyboard. No issues (go figure)

    4. Updated keyboard drivers. Nothing

    5. Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. Nothing

    6. One solution said to hit "Win" key + "Alt" - nothing

    7. Another solution said to try pressing and holding "Ctrl" + "Alt" + "P" - nothing

    8. Switched keyboards, problem persisted (this makes sense since it happens with the on-screen keyboard as well)

    9. Looked at sticky Keys and Filter Keys settings, they were already off while this problem occurred, but I turned them on and then off. nothing.

    10. The computer was updated over 10 days ago, so i cannot roll-back the windows update

I'm gonna leave this question up here, hopefully someone has an answer out there. Super bizarre. i'm gonna try

    1. Using an older driver version for keyboard

    2. Updating BIOS

Haven't done anything else with the mouse moving and opening start menu, probably will go through a similar list as keyboard. Not sure if it's a related issue.

Can't really think of anything else. Let me know what you guys think. Also for customer support: please read the list of what I have already done and suggest something else please.

    Keyboard Stuck in Shortcut Mode?

    Hi,DillonW.

It's been a while since your last reply, has your keyboard returned to normal function, and has the option of creating a local account that Shawn mentioned helped you resolve the issue?

If you are still plagued by keyboard problems, you can try entering Safe Mode to troubleshoot the problem.

In Safe Mode, the system will load only the basic drivers used to keep the system running. Therefore, you can exclude certain applications from the safe mode. If you can type normally in the safe mode, it is very likely that some programs are affecting your keyboard.

Windows 10 system to enter safe mode:

    • Click on the Start menu and open Settings - Update and Security - Recovery.
    • Under the Advanced startup section, click Restart now.
    • On the Select options screen, click Troubleshooting - Advanced Options - Setup Options and then click the Restart button.
    • On the new screen, use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode, press Enter to confirm, and the system will reboot in Safe Mode.

Please note that there may be slight differences in the steps to enter Safe Mode due to possible differences in system versions. For more questions on the use of Safe Mode, you can also refer to: Start your PC in safe mode in Windows - Microsoft Support
