Windows 10: Keyboard switching in Win 10

I have a compact (ITX) desktop that I carry between locations (it fits in my laptop bag). I used to live in the US for part of the year and so bought a screen and keyboard there to use with the machine. Naturally it's a US keyboard (try buying a UK one there). Equally naturally I have a UK keyboard back in the UK. So - some of the time the machine has a US keyboard on it and some of the time a UK one. I'm now spending a fair bit of time in France and if I have to buy a keyboard there it will naturally be a French one (AZERTY not QWERTY, which would be helpful when using accented characters in French)).


Is there any reliable way to set a particular keyboard layout as the default so it won't change on reboot? OS is Win 10 Pro (64 bit) v1803 build 17134.285

Keyboard stops when switching accounts

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Troubleshoot

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your devices. Refer these steps:

• 
  Press Windows key +X, select Control panel.
  
• 
  Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons.
  
• 
  Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel.
  
• 
  Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.
  

Method 2: I suggest you to roll back the driver and check if it helps.

Follow the steps to roll back the drivers:

a. Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.

b. Expand the Keyboard driver.

c. Right-click on the HID Keyboard Device and click on
Roll Back the driver software.

d. Restart the computer and check.

Keyboard stops working after switching users...

Hi,

I have a very annoying issue that hast started to happen a few days ago. Basically when I switch users keyboard stops working.

Steps:

• Start PC
• Log in as user A - Keyboard works fine
• Switch User B - login screen is displayed and keypboard works to enter password
• User B descktop is displayed
  • Keyboard does not work
  • Mouse works
  • Strange behaviour - the system seems to act like the Enter key is stuck down (which it isn't). If I open word to a new document (using mouse) it just inserts new lines into the document... like I am holding the enter key down

I've tried a different keyboard and still the same issue.

Any ideas?
